What does Cam have to do

There is seriously nothing we should "expect" from a Rookie who had a massively shortened off-season due to the lockout, and is playing for a Head Coach who just took over a team that had 3 weeks or so to install a gigantic playbook. It is most likely going to take all season for our team to get on the same page. We will be lucky to get 6 wins. We will be lucky to see any player with Pro-Bowl stats.

You think it's too much to expect improvement from him? What, does him showing up to camp and getting on the field make this a "successful year" for him? I'm sorry I want to see a bit of growth out of our franchise quarterback... I'd want to see the same thing whether it was Clausen or some other young QB starting, be it Pryor, Gabbert, or even Luck.

Id like to see Cam have one of those "Cam" games where he throws a couple TD passes or puts up some big plays. I dont expect that every week for a rookie, but he needs to show flashes of his potential at some point this season.

exactly what I meant, I would like for us to have a performance of some kind (not necessarily statistically) to look back on and be proud of the future and hopeful for what he'll be doing next year.

A few of those games would be nice.

He should have a few like that. And he should also be expected to have a few God Awful ones where nothing goes right.

That is just par for the course in the development of a young QB.

It almost the third preseason game and he hasn't won a Super Bowl yet. Obviously he is a bust.

Seriously I don't care much about this seasons stats or wins (so long as they are more numerous than last year.) If he continues to work hard and show improvement I will keep the faith.

Grasp the Offense. 6ish wins. 16-20 Total tds, hopefully keep the picks too 10-12. Show potential and then improvement through out the season.

TRD will prob want a SB though.

Expecting 10-12 picks from a rookie in 16 games is probably a little low.

Cam will be willing to sling it downfield. Expect to have quite a few int's.....just hope he has quite a few big plays to help offset them.

Since this is a team sport...the wins and loses don't matter to me.

Since we're talking about a QB here, rushing stats don't matter either.

#1...take care of the football.

This means more touchdowns than INT's, no bad fumbles, no bad snaps.

3,000 + yards.

AND his team supporting him through it all.

Improvement from what? There is no baseline to go off of. He's setting that baseline now.

If he comes in and has some rough play, yeah, I'm sure part of it will be him... but how much of it will be a new Offensive Scheme? Or how much of it will be the talent surrounding him?

I can't set concrete goal posts for him yet, because we have no tangible NFL play to base anything off of.

There is one possible tangible thing we should want to see... and that is more passing production from him than Jimmy Clausen had last year.

Be that 5 TDs and 9 INT, or one more yard passing, or one percentage better completion rate. Anything to post an upgrade to our QB game.

Simple - He needs to 1) outperform his rookie peers, 2) throw more touchdowns than interceptions, and 3) put the team in a position to win games whether they do or not.

On the first point, this comes with the territory of being the #1 pick in the draft. Picks #1 and #2 last year were offensive and defensive rookies of the year, respectively. The Panthers should expect something similar.

    • With Schoen and Dan Morgan being tight I’d figure we knew this was coming and since he is released, Dan didn’t bite.    But, a quick search says this is at least 80% cap related. They have No cap space and save 8 or 9 million with releasing him.  He has been a captain his entire time there. 145 tackles this year.  They are picking 5th with a new staff and looking at Styles. Hitting that age 30 season and had a disc issue last year (meaning 2024) that did not require surgery.  I haven’t really watched him play but he activated the antennae.
    • OK, we are letting our top RB go.  We have Chuba, Etienne, and Brooks.  Imagine a player who could LEGITIMATELY play the slot and back up at RB?  I am sure he'd be a special team player as well.  I noticed him at the combine, and thought, "Here is a late rounder who could stand out as a slot and provide depth at RB. Without further ado....(I know one Huddler who might be able to tell us more about this guy): Navy running back/wide receiver Eli Heidenreich headlined the 2026 NFL Combine for the Midshipmen, running an official 4.44-second 40-yard dash and recording 16 reps on the bench press. Recognized as a versatile, "Swiss army knife" offensive weapon, Heidenreich solidified his draft stock as a potential day three target.    Eli Heidenreich (RB/WR - Navy) 2026 Combine Performance: 6'0" 200 lbs.   40-Yard Dash: 4.44 seconds. 10-Yard Split: 1.55 seconds. Vertical Jump: 35.5 inches. Broad Jump: 10' 0". Bench Press: 16 Reps. Highlights: Showcased as a premier receiving threat from the backfield, having left Navy as the program's all-time leader in receiving yards (1,994). High character.  Smart.  Maybe, just maybe....
