Props to JR, Hurney, Rivera, and FO.

During the draft process, they did more research into Cam Newton than almost any other potential first pick ever. No stone was left unturned. Why many thought this was a smoke screen, or something. It was genuine hard work in scouting the most important decision this team has had.

They could have easily made the "safe" choice and drafted Dareus or Patrick Peterson, and would not have received nearly as much criticism, but no, they took a risk to be great. Its not a guarantee that Cam will be great, but it looks like he is well on his way. Can't wait to see what we have in a couple of years.

Fortune favors the brave.

U are right and I really applaude Rivera and Hurney for not letting the media pressure them or scare them off from Cam. And contrary to what the elite talking heads wanted u to believe, if u guys didn't take Cam, he still would have gone off the board in the top five.

But I will say, the fact that Cam was treated that way speaks volumes of how far we really haven't come as a society. Here's hoping all the other athletes were as scrutinized but I doubt it cause they weren't made to look and sound like they belong in jail instead of a football field..I really thought the over-the-top behavior by the media towards Vick and Tiger was bad but DAMN....

It's really hard to believe that this is the same kid to top Andrew Luck in every area as a QB while he was in college. Yet he's constantly told he's not good enough to play on the elite level in the NFL and everything he does gets disected like a farm animal. But the NFL red carpet is awaiting the arrival of the "King and future QB" Andrew Luck..All I will say is WOW....

Props to the fans who believed in and endorsed Cam Newton as a viable option LAST YEAR when everybody was on the Luck train or the "anybody but Cam" train. It took a lot of guts to stand up for Newt back then on this board. I was called a racist for saying Cam was the better QB. Now hes OUR QB. Gotta love it!

Yeah, I'll admit, I did not think Newton was even near to Luck's ability. I was flat out 100% wrong.

I was never on the anybody but Cam train. But I was on the Luck train, and I am honestly happy Luck didn't come out. Luck didn't want to be a Panther, and Cam did.

Nobody can say, "well no one knew Cam was gonna be this good".

Bullshit, JR, Hurney, and Rivera did

I'll admit wanting Luck and being pizzed when he decided to stay. I wasn't as sure about Newton but thought with the first pick in the draft and a potential franchise QB there he was the best pick since I wasn't in love with any of the other potential top picks. He performed about how I expected him to in the preseason and I was resigned to a season of watching him struggle early and hopefully developing as the season progressed while showing some glimpses that would give us hope. I never thought he would play the first two regular season games the way he has and neither did anybody else regardless of whatever crowing about how smart they are that they are doing today.

    • Seven North Carolina players have entered the transfer portal or announced their intentions to enter so far today: Derek Dixon (6.5 PPG) Jonathan Powell (4.8 PPG) Kyan Evans (4.0 PPG) Zayden High (3.4 PPG) Isaiah Denis (1.9 PPG) Jaydon Young (1.8 PPG) James Brown (1.2 PPG)
    • As long as we have DB, odd man fronts are the way to go for us. We want to line DB up between the guard and tackle (4i-tech) because of how quick he is off the snap and his punch on the guard off the snap. If anyone is wondering why he pretty much has to be doubled (or combo blocked) just about every snap, its because he is lined up in that spot in our odd man front. If we change to an even front, it becomes a lot harder to have DB play the 4i-tech.  Not sure if I would say Evero likes smaller NTs - I wouldn't call Bobby Brown a small NT by any sense. I think we run a 1-tech NT, so they are usually getting double teamed (or combo blocked) by concept alone. I actually think Bobby Brown did a pretty good job of eating blocks and being positionally sound on most runs at him (not his fault we were rocking ass LBs last year + Wharton being god awful). The bigger problem came on the toss plays/outside runs where DB wasn't able to blow it up in the backfield (i.e., the Bills game). Lloyd should help with the run D and getting a rangy LB in the draft will definitely help. There are also some good 1-tech DTs (and 0-techs) that can be instant day 1 starters for us in the draft.
    • Thanks for bringing receipts. I appreciate the facts, but they are a stark contrast to what we see on the ice, but maybe, as I've said before, his "aw sh!t" moments just seem to weigh heavier than his "attaboy" moments.
