"Cam looking at the film what do you need to do to improve?"

That sound byte got coverage on First Take this morning. The snippet at the bottom of the screen: "Cam says he's in same league as Brady."

Poor guy is being passed off as arrogant now.

I freaking knew it! I was just talking about this and getting flamed for it in the other thread.

I will warn you all again. Get used to it. Cam Newton will be one of the biggest narcissist in this game. Some of it will be unfair hate, but some of it, he WILL bring on himself. I know people around here want him to fit the "selfless leader, good ol' boy" image. Cam is not going to be that guy.

He's going to be saying a lot of things like this. Go back and listen to the part where he says "I'm just a quarterback in the National Football League'. Pay attention to the air and tone of his voice.

Please hold it back Cam. Please get us the win this Sunday. Then you can let go. You won't just shock the nation, you will shock the Huddle.

Your definition and description of narcissism is so wrong it borders on ridiculous. Your attributing parts of psychopathic and sociopathic behaviors and making them into some absurd self derived definition of narcissism.

No I'm really not. But I really don't care to go into a detailed explanation again.

Newton is a narcissist, in every since of the word, and its true definition. Whether or not he ends up developing a narcissistic personality disorder, and begins exhibiting psychopathic behaviors, that's another story. I didn't say Newton was a psychopath or a sociopath. In fact, Newton is anything but a sociopath. He's going to be a media darling.

But just out of curiosity, what is your definition of a narcissist?

Actually it was my first thought watching the clip, that he sounded a little cocky. Whether he meant it that way or not is a different story. It would be wise of the team to have a PR guy working with him on how to handle the media. I'm sure they do but he needs a little more work. Media is going to take any inch Cam gives them to turn it on him and make him look bad.

There's a literal dictionary definition

nar·cis·sist  [nahr-suh-sist] Show IPA

noun

1.

a person who is overly self-involved, and often vain and selfish.

2.

Psychoanalysis . a person who suffers from narcissism, deriving erotic gratification from admiration of his or her own physical or mental attributes.

And then there is a psychological definition that describes narcissism as a personality disorder. Neither of which is what you describe. Modern day narcissism definitions were started with Freud and have evolved over time, however none of the described definitions fits your broad view of narcissism, which is false by almost all conventional wisdoms.

Modern day narcissism definitions were started with Freud and have evolved over time, however none of the described definitions fits your broad view of narcissism, which is false by almost all conventional wisdoms.

First of all all your literal definition, is incredibly limited, and incomplete.

Second the psychological definition, doesn't describe narcissism as a personality disorder, it is actually called narcissistic personality disorder, which it the disorder. A narcissist, on its own, isn't a disorder.

Here's another modern day description of a narcissist from the HARVARD BUSINESS REVIEW:

Throughout history, narcissists have always emerged to inspire people and to shape the future. When military, religious, and political arenas dominated society, it was figures such as Napoléon Bonaparte, Mahatma Ghandi, or Franklin Delano Roosevelt who determined the social agenda. But from time to time, when business became the engine of social change, it, too, generated its share of narcissistic leaders. That was true at the beginning of this century, when men like Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, Thomas Edison, and Henry Ford exploited new technologies and restructured American industry. And I think it is true again today.

http://www.maccoby.com/Articles/NarLeaders.shtml

Bill Gates is a narcissist.

Ghandi was a narcissist.

Muhammad Ali is a narcissist.

Michael Jordan is a narcissist.

Tom Brady is a narcissist.

By that same token,

Hitler was a narcissist.

Osama Bin Laden was a narcissist.

O.J. Simpson was a narcissist.

Those guys also had traits that some would later label as psychopathic or those of a sociopath.

Finally Cam Newton, IS, indeed a narcissist.

Your using one man's obscure definition of narcissism over and over again. Maccoby =/= the end all be all of psychological behavior definitions. He uses his self proclaimed definitions to sell books, and is basically the only person on the planet to transcribe classic psychopathic behavior into his own definition of narcissism.

So he's turning down national media interviews to focus on his job... I thought this kid was a phony and had a questionable work ethic???

Keep making these "analysts" look like fools Cam... :cam:

I want someone to lift the rock Charlie Casserly is hiding under (let him put his toupee on first) and see what he thinks of Cam now?

Seriously, where did all of these "experts" get the idea that Cam was dumb, phony, or had a bad work ethic? How do you put a team on your back and go undefeated in the SEC without putting in some work? How do you get an established SEC team to follow you in your first year with the team if you're a phony? How do you improve so much during the course of one season if you're dumb?

I never saw any evidence to back up all of these ridiculous claims.

Wadafa?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissist

Except in the sense of primary narcissism or healthy self-love, "narcissism" usually is used to describe some kind of problem in a person or group's relationships with self and others. In everyday speech, "narcissism" often means inflated self-importance, egotism, vanity, conceit, or simple selfishness.

Oh ok, a Harvard business psychoanalyst recognized as an expert on leadership is not good enough for you...how about Forbes?

How about one on Julius Caesar, another Harvard article about another narcissist. Heard of him?

    • His points are valid.  However, it seems a bit based on past performance and fails to take into consideration trends and conditions that might suggest growth in 2025.   For one, he breaks the team down by position and ranks them separately.  I guess that is a fair way to do it, but they are dependent upon each other. Last year, our DL sucked.  That impacts the rest of the defense.  With no internal pressure, the QBs simply step up to avoid the Edge rush.  I would have suggested that the internal DL is now featuring pass rushers and large people who can collapse the pocket.  Secondly, the LBs were not protected very well in 2024.  It is hard to see the holes and step up when a guard is in your earhole a second after the snap.  Finally, the defensive backs will be forced to make fewer tackles and they will be better in pass protection with a new and improved DL.    Canales made an interesting comment the other day, and I (from the outside looking in) feel the same way:  (paraphrasing) "I have never seen a better group of rookies."   I think the biggest concern is the learning curve.  How long before these rookies are ready?   I am bullish on this team.  I think they win 3 of their first 4 and get confident.  The get the fans behind them.  From there, they win 6 of the remaining 13.  If they stay injury free, they have an outside shot at the NFC south.
    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
