Skip Bayliss: Harper Hit Not Dirty

disagree 100%.

NFL has a BAD habit of determining punishment based on the outcome of plays. Let's say on that pointless and planed late hit he blew Steve Smith's knee out and he was done for the year.

.....you don't think Harper then catches MUCH harsher punishement?

Punishing guys based on the end result of what occurs....is too flawed.

What Harper did was 10x worse than a player throwing a single punch at another wearing a helmet. What Harper did could of ended Smitty's season....blind side hit to what essentially is a defensless player. Lucky for Smith he peaked and had a slight moment to brace for it.

agree to disagree then. it pissed me off but if i saw it happen to another player on another team it wouldn't bother me a bit.

Still think what Harper did is 10X worse than grown men in pads and helmets throwing a punch.

but yeah, agree to disagree on it.

if you don't do more to discourage those things they will continue until the result turns out much worse than it did for Steve.

I got no issue w/ a little extra stuff going on....but taking shot at guys when they are in defenseless type scenarios can't be allowed IMO. Difference between taking a cheap shot when guys are barking vs. what he did.

i understand what you're saying. do you have that same opinion about the hit peppers put on rogers a few years back?

i thought it was a late hit. Thought Peppers was willing to take one for the team to try to rattle Rodgers. But there at least is an arguement to be made that speed of that play could of impacted Peppers judgement of where Rodgers was.......offensive players often loose track of the the sideline so it is at least possible a defender could as well when they are focused on a player.

but without question Peppers was looking to get a shot on Rodgers.

it was late, he got penalized and might get fined

I don't see it as that big of a deal though.

and if Smith rolled his anke up and missed the next 3 weeks that shouldn't impact your view IMO.

I would think if that is your stance then with that outcome you still much claim no big deal...

you could make that argument but you'd be grasping at straws. he was getting a shot in and coach (or someone) had probably told him to do it if he got the opportunity.

again, it's not even that i disagree with you about increased penalties etc, but i just don't see how you get rid of that kind of stuff without impacting the game negatively.

It's football and late and questionable hits have gone on since the first game ever played.

He didn't get hurt and it's over. I'm not going to get upset over something that didn't happen.

well, I don't think cracking down on the stuff Harper did would hurt the game......but if you do that you are right in the fact the Peppers hit then would require closer attention (and then that would probably lead to who knows what).......

the Harper hit is at one end of a spectrum.....but I guess you are right it then opens up everything that falls into that open for more discussion.

yea, it gets really subjective. too much so for my tastes... but we'll probably see how it works out in the next few years, i'm sure they'll crack down at some point.

Let me ask you a question, are all entertainers entertaining?

Are all comedians funny? Is Hayden Pwhatumacallher a good actress?

Get where I'm going?

Umm. That's kind of what I was saying. He sucks donkey nuts as a sports analyst.

But how many bad entertainers typically get to be bad on a nationally broadcast program?
