Newton is a band aid over how bad we really are.

After going back and watching each game several times, Cam threw the ball better and ran the ball better in the Atlanta game than in any game this year.

Think I'm crazy? Go back and review them yourselves. Cam's accuracy was excellent in the Atlanta game. He got picked twice on two great plays.

Stats don't always tell the whole story.

Zero passing TDs was excellent defesnse too? I thought Atlanta rattled him some. I will rewatch the game, while his accuracy was better from my recollection, he still is highly inconsistant to anyting other that wide open targets. Shockey and Olsen tend to be completely alone at times. Hitting 'windows' with coverage is something Cam has to improve upon.

Put in a veteran and we have a 2-3 more wins.

how do you figure that?

Newton has generated more production by a fairly large margin than your standard scrub vet does when plugged in for a few games.

Newton is on pace for a 34 TD, 5000+ yards of offense season.......

Yup, by Chud's design. Newton is going to prosper or struggle because of this offense. Anyone who honestly thinks that those numbers are purely based off Cam is smoking the good stuff. Chud wanted a passing team and that is what he got with Rivera's blessing. Just about any other QB of starting quality in this League would be putting up close to the same numbers.

Chud is giving Newton a chance to produce....no doubt. Cam still has to make the plays and Cam on his own creates a lot of his opportunties based on how a D plays him......

you are smoking stuff if you don't think Cam has a LOT to do with that production. Chud could put Clausen in the same scenarios.....and you won't get those positive plays. Nor would a garbage vet.

Carolina had the most explosive pass attack in the entire NFL heading into the Falcons game. So, no....just about any vet would not be putting up numbers close to that. That is not the NFL average if you give your QB the green light to throw.....

So by your logic, no Cam=garbage. Got it. I love the black or white mentality of this board. There are only absolutes, nothing else.

Never said or implied that.....

In reality I don't really like what Chud is doing. But the fact remains, with a defense this horrific......throwing and throwing a lot probably does give us the best chance to win right now.

Cam is playing very well....but mistakes/turnovers will come with any QB you ask to throw that much. That really isn't a rookie thing.

You can't just insert a vet in and inspect the same results....that is silly. Cam forces Ds to play and respect things no middle of the road vet would do b/c of his freak skill set/ability. What he has done in the pocket, missing tackles, buying time, etc....have been huge at times. Drives have kept going for points vs. punting (with a more average guy under center)

It's funny that Cam's accomplishments are due to the coaches but the ints and so called "bad decision making" are all his fault.

just wondering if anyone has noticed the absurdity of this post....

I kinda disagree. Cam has made the team better, but he has also made it worse. If Clausen was out there, the rest of the team would be trying to win games because they know Clausen wont get it done. With Cam out there, the rest of the team becomes a spectator. Waiting for Cam to make plays instead of making plays themselves.

That was what I've been saying all along. The Falcon's defense were more swift than the Panther's offense. It really wasn't Cam's fault in regards to those ints but it's Cam we're talking about. Must pad his ints stats so the usual suspects can have something to chew on, even if it isn't 100% truthful.

I did say starting calibre QB and you did say garbage vet. I detest getting into thses type of back and forths, but I still stand behind Cam's production being a function of Chud's system. Therefore, by my logic, a decent starting QB in this league could put up similar numbers...probably not the rushing stats but certainly the passing.

I would also contest with a bad defense you throw the ball a lot versus ball control. If we move the via the pass and actually got in the endzone more frequently, that would be great. However, passing the ball around like the common flu between the 20's dosn't mean a heck of a lot if the red zone percentage is lacking. Once we start punching the ball in the endzone, by all means, toss the ball all over the field. Until then, bleed the clock and keep the opposing offense off the field.

agree 100%

imagine the season with Clawsum starting and Peterson/Fairley the top pic

We'd probably be in the running for the worst offense.

PP7 would be on the bench behind Legadon't...

Fairley would be helping our Run D, but then our LBs and Secondary wouldn't be wrapping up and tackling, and standing around like they are playing zone, but are really watching cheerleaders.
