Offense = ranked #5 in total offense;# 5 in passing yards, # 13 in rushing yards ,

Defense= ranked # 16 total defense; ranked # 11 in passing; ranked # 31 out of 32 in rushing yards given up----842 yds in 6 games...wow

all in all defense is sitting in the middle of the pack.....just really can't stop the run....

inexperience + lack of discipline i would say.

the two kind of goes hand in hand, though.

Our oldest starting defensive lineman is 25. There are no starters older than 28 on the defense (anderson and gamble). Munnerlyn is 23. Godfrey is 25, as is connor. Now compare that with the offense where gross, smith, shockey, wharton are all 30 or older. Newton's pretty much the least experienced and he is playing his ass off right now.

Anybody who wants to fire the defensive coaches based on the performance on that side of the ball this year is a simpering retard who should be gassed.

Yeah, asking for the firing of people is way too premature, and over the top.

But I'm not really sure that age is a factor as much as the fact we DO have some significant injuries on D.

Still, to allow 27+ points a game is more than just an age/injury thing. There is something flawed with the defensive philosophy (maybe our guys can't play zone as well as man-coverage).

And has anyone else noticed that Sean Mcdermott looks shockingly like Ron Howard?

gosh its almost like we lost beason, davis, an experienced defensive lineman that was a key free agent signing, and other key players on a weekly basis. i'm trying to figure this one out but i just can't.

We didn't have Davis last year. Hardy was sharing reps with Everette Brown and learning the position. Our starting DTs were scrubs (Nick Hayden, Corvey Irvin, Ed Johnson).

Yes, injuries are a problem here, but our D did better with about the same talent level last year, especially when you consider our Time of Possession issues because the Offense couldn't sustain drives (Our D was #5 in total scrimmage plays).

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
