The Panthers have opened negotiations with Jake Delhomme about a potential contract extension.

No deal is imminent, but Carolina could save salary cap room by spreading out Delhomme's deal. His 2009 cap number is $11 million and he's due a $5.325 million salary. The Panthers need to start thinking about an eventual replacement, but are clearly committed to Delhomme for the 2009 season. Mar. 25 - 2:45 pm et
