Fox praises Jarrett

well this is make or break year for Jarrett. he either produces now or he never will, at least not on this team.
i agree but here's the tough thing. he is still going to be the 3rd option at best.

moose is going to see the field a lot more than jarrett just for his downfield blocking.

providing that jake throws about as much as he did last year (380 attempts in regular season) which, considering the run game we have is probably about right.

smith is going to have about 30-35% of the targets go to him. about 9 targets a game would give him around 145 targets in the regular season. he'll catch about 60% of them so that would be about 87 catches.

moose will probably get no less than 5 targets a game on average (he got just over 6 last year). he caught about 60% of what was thrown his way. say it's going to be 80 targets (compared to 108 this past year...15 in game 1, no smith). 40 catches.

the WR3 (hackett/jarrett) got 47 targets last year...just under 3 targets/game. I can see him, as the lone #3 receiver and having gained confidence in himself and from jake, picking up another target or two per game. give him a generous 60% reception rate that would mean 4.5 targets per game, 72 targets, 43 catches. 12-13 yards a catch....537 yards and maybe a TD or two.

point is...the numbers may not be spectacular but if he can get a bit over 40 recps/500 yards/2 TDs i would consider him to be progressing nicely and has given more reason to be trusted with more the following year.

now will robinson cut into those numbers or will jake spread it out more to the TEs (about 15% targets last year) and RBs (who got about 14%)?

We said the same thing about Carter and Colbert and it never happened. The other thing is that Colbert had a much better start as well. I sure hope Jarrett continues to improve while Colbert and Carter never seemed to get over the hump.

I thought we always said, "wow, I wonder why Colbert keeps laughing and smiling every time he drops a ball".

Jarrett made a lot of 3rd down grabs this year. There was reason for those watching to think he should be on the field more. Colbert and Carter oftened showed why they shouldn't be on the field.

I have Jarrett in a DeAngelo situation. Not identical but it was clear last season Jarrett should have gotten more time and looks. We said the samething when DeAngelo showed he was making plays prior to last season.

Hell, I'll give him 35/400 as a goal. That would be a massive step up, and we know how Jake has to have his chemistry with Moose and Smith, so I'll give Jarrett a break there if he can get that much, as a no.3 WR in this offense, he's got a future here.

    • If I said more about why I see the league being part of the problem I couldn’t post.  Still love football, my dad was an example of the difference between college and pro. He ended up coaching for several years. I went on a couple of visits for college ball but knew I wasn’t NFL caliber and had some pretty compelling interests outside of athletics and here we are. I went another way. Still love football but seriously falling out of love with the NFL. Have zero love for Tepper.    edit: to stay OnTopic the wins come from facing teams that are down for whatever reason, that week. I don’t know how to know more specifics ahead of their random demises.

    • On the whole, I share the exact same sentiments. Tepper has pushed me to 'academic interest' status but it's hard to turn off 30 years of overall interest. Have to say though that the continued fractionation of the product and the ubiquity of gambling around the NFL in general is sure a growing turn-off.
