Panthers Madden Franchise Simulation

Catalyst

Recommended Posts

This is something I used to do at another site, but I've recently started a new franchise on Madden 12 and thought I'd give it a shot here. Basically I play through my Madden franchise and post updates here.

I try to keep as realistic a franchise as humanly possible. I control all 32 teams in the offseason to ensure trade/free agency/draft/re-sign logic is correct and import my draft classes from NCAA 12 so they include the real player names.

Not sure how much interest there will be in this here, but I had a solid number of people following it last year on the other site. It's basically just to have something to do when I'm bored and somehow posting all the info makes it more entertaining for me.

Anyway, here goes for anyone who gives a poo :p

Finished through the first wave of free agency, some trades, and the first two rounds of the draft + a few picks into the 3rd. I found a good realistic spot to trade down in the 1st round and went straight BPA in the 2nd round. I didn't do much in free agency; just a handful of backups/special teams guys for depth.

PRE-DRAFT TRADES:

- Giants trade DE Osi Umenyiora to Jaguars for 3rd round pick + 2013 5th round pick

- Dolphins trade WR Brandon Marshall to Redskins for 3rd round picks in 2012 & 2013

- Eagles trade CB Asante Samuel to Seahawks for 3rd & 6th round picks

Lol at Forte getting franchise tag.

Was listening to Jim Rome the other day, said that most likely situation is Forte getting franchised twice in a row to keep him, then drafting someone else once he gets into that "late 20's RB Wall" people talk about. Cold blooded, Bears.

They're not really rated that highly anymore. Abraham is down to an 85, Hillis a 77, and Edwards 75. I try to use a more conservative rating system than EA does and I edited every team's roster before starting the franchise.

For example, the Panthers ratings after 1 season of progression:

QB: Cam Newton (88), Jimmy Clausen (70)

RB: Jonathan Stewart (85), DeAngelo Williams (85), Mike Goodson (73)

FB: Richie Brockel (68)

WR: Steve Smith (94), David Gettis (75), Brandon LaFell (75), Kealoha Pilares (68), Armanti Edwards (65), Seyi A... tutu (65)

TE: Greg Olsen (85), Dwayne Allen (???), Ben Hartstock (65)

LT: Jordan Gross (93), Lee Ziemba (65)

LG: Travelle Wharton (85), Garry Williams (65)

OC: Ryan Kalil (94), J.J. Jansen (60)

RG: Geoff Schwartz (73), Kevin Zeitler (???), Zach Williams (63)

RT: Jeff Otah (81), Byron Bell (73)

LE: Charles Johnson (88), Eric Norwood (67)

DT: Sione Fua (71), Terrell McClain (71), Ron Edwards (71), Brandon McKinney (70), Andre Neblett (65)

RE: Greg Hardy (83), Antwan Applewhite (74)

OLB: James Anderson (85), Jordan Senn (61)

MLB: Jon Beason (97), Thomas Williams (67), Ricky Brown (67)

OLB: Thomas Davis (82), Zach Brown (???), Omar Gaither (70)

CB: Chris Gamble (88), Captain Munnerlyn (77), Brandon Hogan (74), Darius Butler (74), R.J. Stanford (65), Josh Thomas (65)

FS: Sherrod Martin (74), Jordan Pugh (67)

SS: Charles Godfrey (79), Jon McGraw (67)

K: Olindo Mare (85)

P: Going to draft one; Baker was (77)

The draft is now complete. The game doesn't do comp. picks, though I did sort of create one for the Raiders. They used their 3rd rounder on Terrelle Pryor in the supp. draft, but they'll get a 3rd round comp. pick for losing Nnamdi to the Eagles, so I just traded as needed to give them their 3rd rounder as the final pick in the round.

I also stole the Patriots 6th rounder as the Panthers 'comp. pick' for Jeff King :D

    • I'll be patiently waiting to see what OL additions we snatch off the waiver wire.
    • Look don't get me wrong here. I'm not arguing it's going to just change his arm talent overnight. I'm just saying doing anything on the physical front after the GM who stuck his neck out for him over the concerns around his physical traits got fired is better than doing nothing. That's another layer. It could easily be argued overall he needed to add at least 10 pounds not just for the sake of working in the pocket and not going down so easily but let's be honest eventually no matter how much we invest in the OL he's going to get hit some and those hits will add up. His frame as it stands is only going to absorb so much over a 17 game season. Oh definitely good or bad we will have to run a lot of under center stuff. Bryce will either look good or flounder. But our offense will remain stagnant if we just keep running shotgun plays 90% of the time. You're telegraphing your offense otherwise. That's why I'm not giving Chuba Hubbard too hard of a time over his YPC last year. We weren't fooling anyone. We'll see what Canales has cooked up. It better be pretty damn clever.
    • Why would a team ever not be aggressive in improving the roster? It may look different from year to year but even the best rosters churn at the bottom. That's a no-brainer.
