Did you know you can still travel across the ocean as a passenger on a boat?

Information

I have booked passage in a spare berth on a German freighter leaving from a port in Long Beach headed to Sydney, Australia. It'll be twenty-one days at sea with nothing to do but write the book I've been saying I'm going to write for the last three years. As a kid I read way too many Jack London and Herman Melville books so this is the sort of thing that appeals to my sense of adventure and turns on my creative flow.

The ship embarks on 16 February 2012. Needless to say I am pretty amped.

how much did you pay?

in sodomy...

the crew is filipino not german so it won't be quite as painful

sorry jayflip

21 days to write a book??

That's a hell of a deadline

The core of it is written already. This will be about arranging it and adding in what needs to be added. Still plenty to do but at this point it's more about getting three weeks of uninhibited creative process to pound out the rest (everything I've written thus far has been during a journey of some sort, I enter some weird state of writer's block when I'm at home or consumed with my job.)

Holy crap at the bottom it says beware of pirates!

Became a VERY interesting trip.

modern piracy is generally concentrated on several areas of the african coast, the malacca strait in malaysia, several areas in indonesia, and some southeast asian coastlines. the only landfall will be in new zealand - not much to speak of there.

if i want something extraordinary i'm going to have to hope a bigass kracken tries to sink the ship.

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
    • They also came out for the encore and the singers were dressed in canes jerseys. Pretty fuging cool.
