Pencil me in for Claiborne. The dude is filthy. Only way I take Coples is if he puts on some weight and we know for sure he can take on the grind at DT full-time. He's a good run defender but not much of a pass rusher at DE. He can be exactly who we need at DT if he shows he has the ability to play it every down.

Coples could add weight to his frame and i think he could handle playing DT. he is a decent pass rusher and is starting to heat up i think he has a sack in the last 3 games or so.

I don't think it's a 'lock' that we draft one of these guys.. a lot of things can change between now and then.. also, you just never know who Rivera will fall in love with.

Some other guys that could be options are:

Quinton Coples

Zach Brown

Reilly Rieff (who grades out better than Kalil by many scouts)

Dre Kirkpatrick

Devon Still

fug what Rieff is graded, do you really think Ryan would let his brother play like poo? Id love to see the brother rivalry on the field, each of them one-upping each other. If we go O id be pleased with Kalil or Jeffery. Defense has gotta be claiborne. We have our star on O now its time for defense

He's proven he could handle DT in the NCAA full time and he's already up to 285 with the frame to easily add 15-20 more pounds. It's his strength though that gives him the ability to handle the role, he's probably the best player in the draft at playing the POA and sealing the edge and playing the run. He can literally play 4-3 end, DT, NT and 3-4 End.

As for his ability to rush the passer, He's considered the best pass rusher in the draft for a reason. At UNC he faces double teams on just about every play and still has 7.5 sacks, 10 TFL and 51 tackles overall for the season. He's also one of the best Dline prospects against the run.

Playing DT every down in the NFL is a completely different beast then in NCAA. He's going to get double teamed in the NFL so he's going to have to learn to split through it. That said his last 2 sacks were from the DT spot and had 10 last year too.

I'm just saying I want Claiborne, but, if Coples can show that he can handle UT on passing AND running plays successfully then I would consider him.

After the up and down success of Julius Peppers, how many UNC lineman have made it big in the NFL. I know a lot of them have been busts.

Not that I am a Clemson fan, but UNC has shown no better

Ryan Sims

Kentwan Balmer

Marvin Austin

Not exactly setting the woods on fire from Chapel Hill

No doubt it's completely different, but he's shown the ability to beat double teams both last year and this year. He's shown he can play the DT spot well and he's one of the best overall prospects in the draft defensively.

Julius Peppers, Vonnie Holliday, Cam Thomas, E.J. Wilson, Robert Quinn were all defensive linemen from UNC that are currently starting in the NFL.

I'd love Coples.. he would be a tremendous upgrade over Hardy in run support.. and his pass rushing upside is great because he has very long arms and can shed blockers with ease. He is not as fast or quick as Hardy, but I think that's all Hardy has on Coples.

Why do you guys want a DE? If anything we should be looking at OT,CB,DT,OLB,WR,FS. Those are the needs of this team.

I don't think DE is one of our top needs, but I wouldn't be terribly upset if we got Coples. Ideally, I want Claiborne and I won't really be satisfied with ANYONE on offense. I truly believe that this defense has not been keeping us in games.. and our offense would look amazing with a better defense.

With no top DT prospects, I am thinking CB is our target.. it could be Zach Brown but I hope we don't take a LB that early because I feel they can be had in later rounds.

If we take Coples, I want him to put on some weight to play DT. I wouldn't doubt that he will do a better job than McClain and Fua. Having Edwards next to him plus CJ will prob keep some blockers off of him. He can do exactly what we need which is push the pocket.

With that said, it's too big of a risk to take in the top 5. Rather go with Claiborne.

The way i look at it is this. If we can't pick Matt Kalil we should just trade down and pick up a DT like Devon Still. I wouldn't mind the front office taking a LB or WR but I just don't see it happening in the first round, unless they have a lot of interest in Vontaze Burfict or Zach Brown. As for CB there are some really good CB's in this draft. I like Morris Claiborne and Dre Kirkpatrick. I also feel there is more talent in the second and third round for CB.
