Anyone who blames Kasay is just looking for someone to blame and doesn't know football. Sure it was a mistake, but Brady would have got them into FG position regardless.

Anyone who blames Kasay for the Super Bowl loss doesn't know strategy. John Fox lost that game by going for TWO 2 POINT CONVERSIONS and failing to get either. That led to the Patriots going for a two point conversion later in the game that they never would have gone for if the Panthers had kicked the extra points. The Panthers were leading the Patriots 22-21 instead of 24-21 because of the blown 2pt conversions. The Patriots scored, went for two, got it, so now they were leading 29-22. The Panthers scored a TD, now the score was 29-29, then Kasay kicked the ball out of bounds.

Had the Panthers kicked the extra points like they should have MUCH EARLIER IN THE GAME (which is why it made no sense to go for two), if they'd have been ahead 24-21 before the Pats scored, it's unlikely that the Pats would've gone for two, because either way, the Panthers would've led them if they scored a TD and if the Pats got the ball back, the worse that could've happened was Overtime. Why would the Pats go for two if they were ahead 27-24 and risk being down 31-27 if they didn't get it and the Panthers scored a TD, so of course they'd have kicked the extra point.

So minus the blown 2-pt conversions, you'd have likely been looking at the Panthers leading 31-28 when Kasay kicked it out of bounds, so we'd have ended up with OT instead of a regulation loss.

Those two 2-point conversion are what really did the Panthers in, in that game. Who knows what would've happened in OT. The Panthers had pulled out many games late that season. They'd have been the more confident team in OT.

Even without the Kasay kick out of bounds, who's to say the Pats wouldn't have gotten into FG range, either way? Those OFF THE CLOCK POINTS that they lost (two 2pt conversions & the Pats' made 2pt conversion) did more damage than Kasay's error.

    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
    • Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.
    • I think people aren’t patient enough with Young. It can take a few years for a QB to develop. Look at Darnold, Baker and most recently Daniel Jones.   he hasn’t been able to put up big passing numbers either cause of how much we run the ball. You can tell our coaching staff still hasn’t took the training wheels off Bryce and let him go all out. We’ve had some pretty bad receivers as well. We finally got a true number one last year and look how much Bryce improved. Still we didn’t really have any depth behind TMac. Coker was hurt for a lot of the year and XL was our #2. How many big plays or TDs has XL dropped? I think this year can be the year we see Bryce able to hit his stride. If not then we can start looking for another qb but I just ask people to be patient.
