Civilization Series

lol loved Civ 3. One of my favorite games ever. And yes i liked nuking other countries.

Civ three was geared heavily towards military victories.. civ four tried to balance it out by adding religion and ended up causing more wars because of it (oh the irony) and civ five finally added an advanced social policy system that serves as an economic and governmental conglomerate that more effectively balances the game and allows extremely powerful civilizations to arise through the pursuit of a cultural victory.

I have a couple PBEM Civ4 games going on with my brother-in-law and a friend back in the States, and play a complete single player Civ5 game once a month or so. I also used to play Civ3 way back and probably still have a copy of it around somewhere.

Right now, I prefer Civ5 if only because I prefer the hex-grid and that you can't stack units.

the absence of stackable units and the concept of the city as self-defensive is brilliant. makes domination much harder. in previous versions you could just stack ten trillion units against a border and win on the basis of numbers.

city defenses make capturing cities much more than a game of numbers, inviting actual strategy into the mix. defensive structures are exponentially more important and where you found your city can make the difference between an absolute fortress and an easily-conquerable city.

i love the unit upgrades too... adds a whole different game element.

Yeah, I just picked the new one up for $7.50 during the steam sale. Probably a bad choice since I have a bunch of chemistry to study for in the next 2 weeks, but fug it. Only downside to this game is they can take sooooo long, especially if you have a bunch of warmongering neighbors. I agree with playing it in waves, I'll play like 3 or 4 games in a week then wont play again for a couple months

Loving the hexes, and the smaller armies now with the no stacking make combat a lot more interesting. City-states are a nice addition too and give you some other players to interact with. Only downside for me is It runs a bit slow on my computer

Only problem I have with Civ 5 (or any other Civ for that matter), is the fact that diplomacy is basically useless. You can be as nice as you can be to the AI and they will still hate you if you're too close to them geographically, more technologically advanced than them...basically if your civ is better than theirs in any way, they will hate you and force you to go to war with them because they won't trade without ridiculous stipulations.

I've been looking into getting a Civ game for awhile now. I've only got a decent laptop off the shelf though...would I have problems playing with that? Excuse my ignorance on computer gaming, but I hardly play my Xbox anymore and would love to pick up Civ 5 or something to keep me busy.

    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
    • Nah we just talking about giving a platform and normalizing predators (who both beat women) opinions and celebrating it if it fits your narrative.  If that's fun I'm fine being a miserable fug by not supporting P.O.S like that. N b4 you call me a libtard or some other dumb ish know I'm an Anarchist/Libertarian and believe both these dudes should get a complete ass whooping (at min) or something worse for what they have done to women in this world.
