Jon Beason played one half of a game last season, surely that's enough to grade him on his career. Typical ignorant saint fan.

You're taking a tiny part of an answer and stretching that into something unrelated to what the topic was. The previous poster alluded to the fact of multiple defensive players were the sole reason for such a disparity in last meeting between teams, you know that game 18 days ago that made the Panthers look like they were a college team playing a NFL team?!. Further, he said the Panthers would not just win at home but sweep the Saints next year with return of the missing IR super defense players.

All I did was pull the actual performance grades of those IR defense players as proof that their return will not be this amazing change on defense. Although Beason is much better player than they-2.2 grade he earned that first game, that doesn't change the original argument that the Panthers defense suddenly is a top 5 defense with them back since the majority of them are average players!

Regardless, the Saints faced the #1 defense of Texans and put over 40 on them, and the top defense of Niners and put up triple their home average of 11 points allowed on them. That makes the statement about the Panthers D stopping Saints offense with return of a bunch of average guys just laughable. Of course, Cam now has a chance in a shoot out and can try to outscore Brees, only it looks like it took the Saints just one game to figure out how to defend him and hold him to just 17 points, so good luck with that one too.

What you did against anther team hold no relevance.

You in your great wisdom chose a player who played less than 20 snaps last season (Beason) and a player who played a game and a half (Davis) check there career averages.... it might enlighten you to your clear ignorance, even with that aside the intangible leadership that Davis and Beason (our defensive captains) bring to the defense makes a difference, the defense we fielded in the finale couldn't stop a high school team.

You are dead right on Munerlyn he is garbage.

Figured Cam out btw? lol He was a rookie wait for the encore.

Looking at the PfF grades of these great players that will make all the difference:

Beason only played 38 snaps but graded a very poor -2.2

Capt. Munnerlyn played over 800 snaps and overall graded -5.9, with pretty bad pass coverage and run block grades, his positive +2.3 pass rush grade saved his overall grade from being even worse

Davis played 108 snaps and graded very average 0.1 grade. His run defense grade was -2.0 and pass coverage +1.2

Thomas Williams played 106 snaps and graded a decent +1.8

The above is all the defensive players on IR with exception of defensive tackles and there is nothing there to support your claim that huge amounts of talent went on IR and will come back next year and be so good, they will stop Brees twice and sweep the Saints. The guys on IR were mostly average or below average and in many games, their replacements graded better than them.

But hey, if you think fooling yourself into thinking your defense is much better than it is will help pass the summer with more positive thoughts about next year, then more power to you. Just try to avoid looking at any actual stats this offseason , otherwise you will ruin the fantasy.

Pretty ignorant to look at stats at 1 or 2 games and extrapolate to how they would do for a season. Trying making a semi educated evaluation by using full year stats in the last year they actually played a full season. For Beason that would be 2010, although 2009 was the last year he actually played MLB for the whole season. For Davis that would be 2009.

Munnerlyn will be replaced or be a rotational guy and Williams won't be a starter if he even makes the squad. So go ahead and list Anderson this year, Beason in 2010 and davis in 2009 as far as ratings. Then go ahead and use the D line for Johnson and Hardy although he might go back to the rotation as we will try and replace him and then use Edwards for 2010. Go ahead and use Gamble and Godfrey as they are the only guys who will be starting for us in the secondary from this team.

What you would know if you were a Panther fan is that the defense is due for an overhaul this year and many guys who played this year won't be here next. The last game of the season against NO we were playing with a decimated defense wiith a bunch of guys hurt. We were pulling guys off the practice squad and after a week of practice were putting them as starters or major contributors. Even so, against NO, we played even in the first half but caved in the second as we did in other games late because we had no depth and our starters weren't used to playing a whole game being rotational guys and back ups that were pressed into a much larger role.

But go ahead and delude yourself into thinking that the guys you saw in week 17 are the same guys you will see next year. Continue to think that our defense won't improve and you will steam roll us. In the end we will see what we see but the reality is that we will be better on defense and offense next year. With you guys your offense has peaked and the defense is a big question mark. But honestly if you want any credibility at all on this site, consider doing your homework and try to appear more knowledgable. Otherwise you are simple an amusing troll who clearly knows nothing about our team.

You can't use the score of one game and extrapolate what that means to a season or even another game. Yeah you scored 40 against the Texans in week 3 but gave up 33 points. You had a differential of 7. We scored 28 and gave up 13 to Houston for a differential of 15 in week 16. What did it mean? Nothing.

You lost by 6 to Tampa Bay in week 6 and to St Louis by 10 in week 8. What did that mean? Nothing.

And if you think that a team that is decimated with injuries (a franchise high) will play as hard on the road as a playoff bound team playing at home with a lot more at stake, then you really know nothing about football. Seriously go back to Saintsreport where this kind of homer half baked logic might fly.

your defense was decimated alright but not by injuries. It was decimated by the greatest offense in the history of the NFL that will only be better next year with the return of a Heisman trophy winner who was on I.R. Combine that with the most wanted defensive coordinator on the market and it makes a recipe for disaster for the rest of the NFC South. Enjoy another year of mediocrity my friends. Timing can be such a bad thing sometimes.

What makes this sweet for opposing fans is that we know a lot of Saints fans are under the same delusions. That is why we root against you. There is nothing better than watching all the overconfident douches cry when you get beaten in the playoffs like you have the past 2 years. All those overblown expectations crushed. So now you are left to try and troll other team's boards looking to make yourself feel superior in a sad attempt to build yourself and your team up at the expense of others.

But keep it up. It is Saints trolls like you that make beating you so much sweeter when it happens. You have had your fun but ours is coming. Sooner or later the worm always turns.

Spags is legit. Anyone saying otherwise is just a huge homer that is scared the Saints added a GREAT defensive coach. Gregg Williams was an overrated POS and a bottom 5 NFL DC, any hire is a great one. The guy who engineered the defense that shut down arguably the best offense this league has ever seen in the biggest game possible going to our division rival fuging blows. He will no doubt have a LOT less talent to work with, but just having him there is scary.

That said, this doesn't really change my prediction for next year. Saints will finish 1st in the division as long as they have Brees, Panthers #2 and Falcons and Bucs I don't really care enough about to rank. Just sucks thinking about the Saints offense with a scary defense.

Said elsewhere and will say again...

Other teams having great coaches/players/front office/cheerleaders/whatever doesn't bother me at all. That's what the game is about. Put our best against their best and see who comes out on top.

The only time I'm annoyed is when other teams have a dirty player or coach because that sort of thing threatens player safety.

You wanna hit our guys hard? Fine. We'll do the same right back.

You wanna cheap shot? You're a dirty worthless POS that can kiss my right rear quadrant.

You mean the defense that ranked 22nd this year and 19th last year in total yards. Really scary!!! St Louis did not have a great defense under Spags.

His reputation is built on 2 years as a DC for the Giants where he had very good talent. Once the talent was gone you can see what happened in St Louis.

Don't get me wrong here. I like him as a coach given he used to work with Jim Johnson in Philly who is a DC I truly admire. But honestly I don't think he is nearly as good as you do and believe we will more than hold our own next year.
