Kingdoms of Amalur

Anyone play the demo? I recommend it to any RPG fans. It's a long demo actually. If you complete it (and at different intervals) you get Mass Effect 3 gear for that game and also gear from this game if you buy it.

The game isn't as dark as Skyrim, it has more colors. Probably not in-depth as much either, but the combat system blows Skyrim out of the water. It's more arcade-ish but it's super fun and looks great.

Apparently the studio (EA is publishing though) was founded by Curt Schilling (the baseball player).

I love how you can put points into magic and yet put points into hammers also and still get a special combo bonus for this. Lets you do whatever you want. It's easy in combat to swing a big hammer but also let loose spells and also block.

Anyway, give it a try. Not sure I'm going to get it release day because I have a lot of other stuff to play but I'm thinking about it (for the bonuses from amazon).

Schilling founded the company, Ken Rolston (lead designer of Elver Scrolls IV: Oblivion) is the Lead Designer, R.A. Salvatore wrote the story, and Todd McFarlane headed the art team. Talk about an all-star cast.

I've had my eye on this game for over a year now, when the team started talking about creating an MMO. Then, as a prequel to the MMO, and as a way to make sure the engine worked and was stable, they decided to create this game.

The demo is fantastic. I see it as everything Fable wanted to be, but never could accomplish. The combat system is awesome, very fun, and fluid. The colors are bright and whimsical, but the game isn't like that at all.

Picked it up today, played around a hour or two. So far it's fun. Haven't gotten into the story a bunch yet just been doing side quests.

You can defiantly see some older elder scroll influences. It has things like fighter guilds in a way, and the talent trees are nice to see again in more detail. Still not a whole bunch of adding attributes like adding points to strength or stamina like older rpg's.

The best way I can describe it is that it's what Fable should have been, but with a WoW art style that was made in today's time, with a little elder scrolls thrown in.

They already have like 2-3 dlc items out, which is good and bad. If you are able to have dlc for purchase on release day, why not put that in the game? It was obviously already completed before the game. But it's good cause it has potential for dlc in the future.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
