Dwight Jones?

It's because it doesn't exist. Rivera has done nothing but constantly sat how excited he is to have Gettis back next year. Gettis was the unquestioned starter in TC from day one, until he got hurt a couple days later.

I swear I'm so tired of the misinformation and dooky on this board.

This is where he's getting it from, a week before Gettis injured his knee.

Said Rivera on Aug. 6th when the team signed Naanee: "Probably the biggest thing is we've had nobody step up other than Steve. We've got to find guys that are going to step up."

Ron Rivera on how disappointing it is to lose Gettis, who ranked second on the Panthers with 508 yards receiving on 37 catches as a rookie last season: It's disappointing because the young man really showed. He had a good last few days. He's got a bright future. Whatever it entails, he'll get it right and we'll have him ready to go when he's ready.

Straight from panthers.com. Doesn't even include all the time Rivera has mentioned Gettis by name when talking about which players he's most excited to have back from injury next year.

As pointed out, this was a week after Rivera felt the need to bring in Naanee because no one had really stepped up to claim #2.

I remember the sequence of events well, because this is a position I was watching closely as camp began. Rivera did later praise Gettis profusely, but carpanfan96 is correct in that RR was not enamored with LaFell or Gettis early in camp.

That's how I feel. Rivera wasn't to high on him, and I don't think it'd be too wise to expect too much of him next season off that inury, so they might draft someone early for not only a back up plan, but maybe even to replace Steve, he's 33 in the last year of his contract, next season after all.

I don't think it's likely we'll take a WR in the first, unless we trade down and they feel Floyd or Wright is the BPA. So a Jones, Criner or Sanu early in the second wouldn't surprise me.

    • I presented that scenario because this is a home game and we seemed to have improved in some capacity in that area as of recently. The problem with the possibility of sweeping the Bucs is this team has had a habit of quickly falling victim to momentum shifts. The Bucs are coming off a bitter loss the same as the Panthers but the Bucs have a much better proven track record this time of year and they have performed when the pressure is on unlike our Panthers. We have a shot against the Seahawks here in BOA but that is a matchup that could quickly get out of hand because they are a well coached team and that goes back to the momentum shifts I mentioned. I just don't see this team beating the Bucs in their stadium to close the season. Tall order to say the least.
    • I’d give it another year for Sanders and Evans, I don’t much care what you do with Tremble’s spot. Let him have another year or maybe replace him. Haven’t looked at his contract so that may be the determining factor.
    • Following the crazy up down pattern we finish 9-8 with an improbable sweep of TB, and lay an egg in the home playoff game.  I don’t know if I can sign on to sweeping TB but I suppose it’s possible, they aren’t really that good this year.    ps I can buy beating TB Sunday and losing to Seattle.  Then it just gets to can you fluke one game. Any given Sunday. So we’ll see.
