Anyone near, in, or know Greenville, SC well?

Just curious...I was looking to see what your top places are, what defines the city, and how much you've used the Swamp Rabbit Trail, etc. etc.

Just overall opinions on the city appreciated (this is somewhat of a general survey)

:dupe:

I grew up in Greenville, SC.

Some highlights, you might say:

Downtown is a good place for nightlife. There are a variety of different bars, so you can probably find something to suit your preferences. Drinks are a bit pricey compared to other locations.

Really cheap drinks at Junior's by the Haywood mall. The Coliseum has free pool if you are into that.

If you have kids, the park in Greer is close and is a great place to take them on weekends.

Swamp Rabbit trail is very nice, and very long. I recommend starting in Traveler's Rest and heading downtown.

Be sure to visit the Furman University Campus. It is a beautiful campus, and the walk around the lake is a great way to exercise.

The city itself is defined by the Downtown area. It has been redone in a major way in the last few years, and has become a really good place to be. As stated before, the nightlife is pretty good, and there are some very good local restaurants along with some national chains.

Woodruff Rd has a lot of businesses and a movie theater, but the traffic makes it a pita. I recommend the movie theater in Cherrydale.

Hope this helps, if you need any other info, let me know.

Awesome thanks a bunch...I have some slightly more specific questions since you seem like a good source:

-What is your view of West Greenville (directly w of downtown)? It seems somewhat low-income and wanted a locals opinion on safety.

-What type of public spaces could Greenville use around downtown?

Basically...

I'm currently working on a re-development of West Greenville including taking out all of the service buildings and cleaning up the Reedy along the Swamp Rabbit after the Academy St. Bridge. I'm using about 150 acres in this corridor...its north of Academy St. and south of Washington around the new Kroc Center.

Right now, I'm developing a concept plan. Thinking about a mountain bike park just a tad similar to I-5 in Seattle and a new large scale amphitheater & mixed-use public market (different from the farmers market)

I've done a lot of analysis but wanted more first hand local opinion. I'm looking towards developing something supporting the arts/music, family-based, and cycling cultures.

West Greenville is primarily low income ..however it is a section of Greenville that should not be overlooked and perhaps facilitating your ideas into the local community would create more jobs, more income for the people etc. I would suggest getting in touch with the local community leaders of West Greenville and brainstorming with them.. this would benefit everybody involved and perhaps exceed your expectations

West Greenville is lower income. East Greenville is the upper to middle class area.

There are parks on the West side, but nothing other than Falls Park that really counts. A mountain biking trail may work, but remember that we are minutes from the Blue Ridge mountains which have tons of trails.

The market idea is not bad, but finding a good location for it may be an issue. People are not going to want to travel too far for it, and the people in the area you are looking to locate it probably would not shop there. If you put in an amphitheater and had concerts set up, plays, etc, it could be successful. I would work out some schedules or at least make some contacts. There are a few theaters in the area that may be willing to do an outdoor play, and there are the different symphonies and orchestras in town. You may want to do some other types of live music as well. They are trying to keep an upscale aura to all of the renovations downtown, so you probably don't want to bring in a Kiss tribute band.

    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
    • Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.
    • I think people aren’t patient enough with Young. It can take a few years for a QB to develop. Look at Darnold, Baker and most recently Daniel Jones.   he hasn’t been able to put up big passing numbers either cause of how much we run the ball. You can tell our coaching staff still hasn’t took the training wheels off Bryce and let him go all out. We’ve had some pretty bad receivers as well. We finally got a true number one last year and look how much Bryce improved. Still we didn’t really have any depth behind TMac. Coker was hurt for a lot of the year and XL was our #2. How many big plays or TDs has XL dropped? I think this year can be the year we see Bryce able to hit his stride. If not then we can start looking for another qb but I just ask people to be patient.
