Stephen Hill

He already said that he plans to retire a Panther and thinks he has 3 or 4 more years left to play. After 2010 I think everyone including the fans wanted to quit. After 2011 and the numbers he put up I think he actually started to look at the Hall of Fame again and whether he could reach those numbers. I think he wrote that off after 2009 and 2010 but honestly I think it is back on the table as at least a realistic goal again like he used to talk about. I also think he believes this team could make a long playoff run and he has waited for the chance to play in the playoffs for the past 3 seasons. He wants a ring like everyone does. I think he believes this team could make a run at it.

.

I heard that too. If SS is to remain a Panther, he will have to accept a lesser role, like a Welker-which is what he should be doing now. We still need a #1. Imagine if Hill develops like we think he can. Smith, Gettis, Lafell, Hill.

If you wait to draft a #1 WR the year you need one, you waited a year too late.

i am not giving up, do you see me saying that we should cut them!!! i just dont think they are number one WRs and until they prove me wrong, i will say that, as of now they arent. as for White, i think he always had the skills, just not the QB.

I don't think Steve Hill is a number 1 wr until he prove me wrong. The difference is Gettis and Lafell are already on the roster and have a good head start on the offense. Plus I don't feel we need a 1 wr next year.

Funny part is if Hill doesn't catch 60-70 balls in his 1st 2 season. We would be in this same debate in 2014.

Imagine if he doesn't and we wasted another 2nd round pick on WR while having 3-4 young wr on the roster. Who you pretty much said F'u we don't think you're good enough .

Not really there are always wr like Hill coming out. This is not a dire need position. This is not a position where you can only get a good one every 3-5 years or you have to be in the top 15 to get a elite wr.

This is a bunch of fans wanting a flashy pick on Offense. Well our defense was so bad people this should be a build your defense up year.

Last do you think your boy Hill can beat out Lafell and Gettis next year? If not then you have wasted a 2nd round pick on a guy who doesn't see the field.

Im a state fan but I became a huge CPJ fan while in the military and love what he is doing at GT. Stephen Hill would be a steal at a 2nd or 3rd round. He does have a case of the butter fingers sometimes but CPJ focuses most of his time teaching blocking. He is a good kid and has a good work ethic. Also Tevin Wahington(GT QB) couldnt hit the broadside of a barn on some of his throws. If Stephen hill plays in a Air Raid offense like Blackmon his stock would be high first round.

Again, WHERE did i say Hill was!!! i dont want Hill at all, i have major worries about him, if we get a WR in round 2, i want Alshon Jeffery, who i do think has that potential, but Hill scares me because of Tech's offense which had little to no passing which means, he maybe a project.

It's just the f'in combine. This guy didn't catch more than 3 passes a game, in the ACC!! Not a baller

He averaged about 3 catches a game on a team that averaged about 12 passing attempts per game and only about 6 completions per game.

The team had 82 completions as a team and he had 28 of them. They had 11 passing TDs as a team. He had 5 of them. They threw for 1850 yards as a team, he had 820 of those.

In other words he was most of their "passing offense" and he was the main reason they had their best passing statistics in the Paul Johnson era despite having a QB that makes The Golden Calf of Bristol look like Drew Brees in terms of accuracy.

He is a beast and is mostly getting knocked because some people can't look past simple statistics comparisons to compare one player to another.

I see what Kool Kat is saying, but if you want Hill to be a #1 this year, it aint happening. Hill has the tools to be a Calvin Johnson--that good. He needs a year to develop, like most WRs do. If you wait to draft a WR when you need a #1, then you are limited to the first two or three in the first round. Then they start at #1 as rookies. If Hill drops to the second round, you take him, develop him.

A lot of people are thinking we would have to drop a current WR. NO. We rotate all 4. This is not FOX ball. This offense likes big, fast WRs. Taking a future stud in the second round reduces risk and insures your future.

You put Hill in the offense at Arkansas or Oklahoma and he is a 75 catch, 1200 yard WR. He is unheard of because he played in an oprtion offense with a QB who is basically a RB.

I just said he could play #4 WR next year, so he would not have to beat them out. In 2013, he will beat Smith out if he gets coached up. He would be learning routes and reading coverages. There are certain positions that take time. I think Hill has the tools to develop into a star and he needs to be developed. If you draft for next year only, you miss the point of the draft. Most talent takes time to develop. He will sign a 3-4 year contract, right?

Maybe he is. There are plenty of guys that run blazing 40's and jump out of the gym. 90% of what organizations are looking at is game tape and how you move in pads. He also doesn't run as fast in pads, I've heard GT fans say he's definitely not as fast as Calvin was.

so you're willing to have a positive outlook on Hill, as someone who hasn't proven anything on the NFL level, but LaFell and Gettis concern you? (namely LaFell, but for the sake of conversation let's say Gettis comes back 100%)

Not really. At least not in terms of base athleticism. You will be hard pressed to find a receiver that is 6'4 220 that had an electronic 4.36 40 and a hand held 4.31 & 4.30 40 time that also topped the charts in the vertical and broad jump, that also never let the ball get to his body on the gauntlet plus had no drops, and made a diving, over the shoulder catch on a fade route in drills that had the whole stadium buzzing.

Gettis who people keep trying to say is just like Hill bobbled the ball a couple of times in the gauntlet (which is no big deal), ran an electronic 4.51 and had a hand held 4.47-ish (times seem to vary) at the combine. Baylor University is who released Gettis' "official" time at his pro day of 4.38. And Gettis' vertical and broad jump were not even close.

Also gettis was actually less productive at Baylor than Hill was at GT.

Just because GT fans say they think he isn't as fast as Calvin was doesn't make it true. They were playing in two different offenses so it is probably pretty hard to compare them as a casual fan in terms of speed and quickness.

Most fans thought Kendall Wright was going to run in the 4.3 range based off his tape but ended up running 4.61. Did he get slower without pads??

    • Went to school in MD when this came out. Dance floor got CRAZY when this joint came on!
    • They had best show out in Week 1 there are zero,I mean zero,  excuses for that offense  defense, haven’t play together yet and they still have Mr Soft and Predictable as DC  I expect break downs at times  …but that offense returns all starters except Tremble and both Mayes and Brady are veterans and can play LG and know the system not up for any participation awards this season they can save that practice energy for Jacksonville.     I’m sick of the, winning,  or looking competitive, when it doesn’t matter.
    • There are some tough decisions that I'm eager to see the results of... Does Blackshear sneak on to the roster as RB4? Does the team go with 4 TEs or just 3 again? And has Mitchell Evans done enough to defend his roster spot from James Mitchell? Who is WR6 and is there a WR7? TMac, XL, Coker, and AT seem to be locks imo and I'm assuming Renfrow also makes it due to all of the camp praise. Who makes it between Brycen Tremayne, Jimmy Horn Jr, and David Moore? If the team goes with 7 WRs, which one of those three doesn't make it? Jacolby George and Emani Bailey both have not gotten a lot of game time. Could the Panthers be trying to hide them so that they can be stashed on the PS? Do they go with 10 OL instead of 9? Who makes it out of Walton, Carter, and Kingston? DL locks are DB, BB3, ARob, and Turk. That leaves Jaden Crumedy, Cam Jackson, Sam Roberts, Shy Tuttle, and LaBryan Ray all competing for the final 1 - 3 spots. Does DJ Johnson get IR'd and Thomas Incoom make the roster as EDGE5? What in the fuuuuuuuuuuuuck is going to happen at LB? Only locks seem to be Wallace, Rozeboom, and Cherelus (Wallace has mentioned in media how Cherelus has been big bro for him on the team). Rhattigan had some good moments against Houston, Martin-Scott is an SC guy, Krys Barnes has popped on defense and on special teams, and Windmon got time starting for the team last season. Are two of those guys going to make it or are the Panthers poaching from another team's cuts? CB5... who is it? Do they go with the 4 expected safeties or bring in a 5th? Has Ransom done enough to take the start from Nick Scott?
