How exactly does letting 2 young DT's rotate in instead of getting assfuged by starting hurt their development ?

Could you be a tad more specific? Which 2 young DTs are you referencing?

Need to know these things if I am to respond. Even if you are rather terse with your question.

This team used to try and emmulate the Steelers, who have like 6 world titles. Why are we now trying to be the Chargers, who have pretty much been a poo franchise since jumpstreet?

This is just a curious question, not to knock Garay per se.

the curious question is why people are astonished a coach would bring in players he's familiar with from his past.. it happens in every new situation. a more curious question would be when doesn't this occur..

I see that point, and development doesn't always mean playing. Learning from the vets can be as advantageous. Secondly, I kind of like Kearse, Shirley, and even Neblett better than Fua/McClain.

We cannot fix every problem in the draft, so at least this creates competition and allows us to focus on other needs.

there is an explanation for this... and it shouldn't be shocking, but I think the answer would actually baffle the few who keep making statements like this. lol

why does it matter which ones he is talking about?

I love how people are under the delusion that they're simply young.

They aren't. They just suck. If they manage to turn it around, it will be a surprise, not an expected development. They're mid-round draft picks. Stop acting like we've invested the future of the defense on them.

Sign Garay. Give us some veteran options, and then use a high draft pick on a DT to give us depth AND someone who can actually become something down the road.

fact is they are young  the only delusion going on is anyone expecting two 3rd round picks to perform as if they have been playing the position for 3-4 years..

they had shown flashes, I think McClain will be a decent pick for us.. even if that means he's more of a Damione Lewis type player (without the high expectations coming into the league, but solid for us and younger)

with that said, that's exactly why you bring in better players until the truth of the matter is known, which will likely take time.

Coaches love Vets because they make fewer mistakes. Vets that know your system, play at an even higher level.

Garay fits a need. He very well might want to come here. He may be cap friendly to reunite with RR. At the right price he would solve one problem and decrease the number of needs we need to fill as well. A double whammy sort of thingy. RR will not pass up the opportunity to bring Garay into the fold.

Detroit was Tennessee north when Shwartz took over. Happens all the time. Familiararity breeds trust.

My giddy is going to love these next few weeks. The revolving door of players and teams is going to be down right dizzying. Zod I love the NFL.

Where was I? Oh yeah, being called SD east is cool short term. Being called the Steelers of the south, is a lifelong dream.

Just a couple of thoughts. And GOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They did have a tough year. Saying they sucked does an injustice to all rookie DTs. DTs are made, they all come into the league short on technique. Most people give young DTs a few years before they throw them under the bus. I guess you ain't most people.

IF, we somehow got Garay I would seriously doubt Hurney and Co would turn around and draft a DT at 9 that is closer to a mid first. You don't reach that far with your last top pick.

Signing Garay gives us the flexibility to address our other needs. LB, CB, DE are all attainable if we sign him.

Or not. And GOOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This an absolutely identical situation to Jimmy and Cam a year ago.

No one expected them to play like Vets. We expected to see improvement and development as the year progressed. They did not. Damione Lewis was a rotational player, that's where contributed best. Fua doesn't even posses that kind of potential.

They are third round picks who weren't even able to live up to that billing, and there is little investmen made in them. We should seek any upgrade possible and not concern ourselves with making sure they get their fair shake. If their play had earned them one last year, it would be different but it did not.

The huddle would have gone up in flames if we had passed on Cam just because we wanted to make sure it was fair for Jimmy. If Cam had gone elsewhere an put up similar numbers to what he did here, everyone here would be on suicide watch.

You just can't run your team that way, you know that Horus.

No strength and training

No valuable time with coaches

No time to work on technique

No time to learn the playbook

Yep 3rd round draft picks with no offseason are gonna play like pro-bowlers.

Some of us see a full offseason for these kids and cannot help but think improvement. A year of experience under the belt. A year stronger and wiser. A whole year of coaching should all work in our favor. I invision our D-line playing well this year.

A healthy Edwards upgrades the line immediately. A full off-season development for the younguns should improve the line even more. As is, we should be better. Maybe not great, but better.

Throw in Garay and we are set.

Just more random thoughts. And GOOOOO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

By the end of this year we should be at the stage where we pretty much know who we are.

    • we probably aren't interested (I would be).  But with the massive improvements on our DL via FA and the draft, the DBs will have an easier job this year
    • Why is it so hard for some people to understand its not about similar styles and one team is better at it than the other. Its about 1 team, us, that isnt even playing their own style and look demoralized from the moment the puck drops and then playing like dogshit. That is all on Rod.
    • Respectfully man if your entire argument is based off of a simple pff score lookup then your argument is severely flawed. There is a reason Mike Jackson signed a two year 10 million dollar deal and Jaycee is one of the highest paid corners in the league. Secondly, I don’t get the comparison to our huge need at pass rush last year. What does our massive and historic lack of talent at rushing the passer have to do with a weakness on this years roster?
