I have worked on this base before, did the controls in a new hanger a few years back. They walk the tarmac every morning, no more than arm's length apart, about 50 people picking up every little pebble or whatever might get blown/sucked into the turbines. They are meticulous in it.. So a slip up like this? Sheeeit, unacceptable by Navy standards....

It hit some apartment buildings from what I understand... Plus, I dont think suing the the Military, or U.S. Government is allowed... So unless the tenants had renters insurance, they are sol...

its sop to dump excess fuel before all landings - I used to live in va beach - , it was an old story among residents of having their selves or pets douched with jet fuel way back then and probably still is

I hope they don't use that SOP with bombs or missles. If thats true thats just nuts.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - On Thursday, the Navy simulated a jet crash near Old Pungo Ferry Road in Virginia Beach.

The drill was organized to train Virginia Beach and Chesapeake first responders. The scenario: A navy jet is unable to make the return trip to Oceana and has crashed near Back Bay in Virginia Beach.

The goal was to develop and exercise coordination efforts between the two cities and the Navy's first responders, according to a news release from NAS Oceana.

CAPT James Webb, the CO of NAS Oceana, said, "We're totally relying on all the cooperation. The first responders have to come from the surrounding community."

The drill included numerous emergency services personnel and vehicles responding to the Navy's fire trainer, which was placed in the parking lot of the old Capt. George's restaurant.

"There are specific responder issues in dealing with aircraft that they wouldn't normally face," NAS Oceana Dist. Fire Chief Kenneth Snyder said.

Neat how they had practice and all. Good thing too, someone must be psychic.

I was wondering how long it would take for a conspiracy theorist to show up.

Strange that an area with low flying aircraft have and practice contingency plans.

Let us know if you see a fire department practicing extinguishing a house fire. We all know that means they're planning on burning our houses down. Or something.

I was just commenting on the fortuity of having had a drill on this accident so recently. I'm glad they were so recently versed on the procedure for this event, otherwise it could have had worse consequences. I don't know what you're getting all bent out of shape about.
