Early Look At The Roster

Recommended Posts

I know it is very early to be looking at the 53 man roster, but after an EXCELLENT draft it looks like the roster is pretty much done. I see us going out and signing Robertson and a free agent o-linemen. This looks like a very competitive roster and I am real excited. I also think the last roster spot is going to come down to McCown, an extra o-linemen, or FA linebacker

QB: Jake Delhomme and Matt Moore

RB: DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, and Mike Goodson

FB: Brad Hoover and Tony Fiammetta

WR: Steve Smith, Mushin Muhammad, Dwayne Jarrett, Ryne Robinson, and Jason Carter

TE: Jeff King, Dante Rosario, and Gary Barnidge

OL: Jordan Gross, Travelle Wharton, Ryan Kalil, Keydrick Vincent, Jeff Otah, Duke Robinson, Mackenzy Bernadeau, Geoff Schwartz, and FA

DE: Julius Peppers, Everette Brown, Charles Johnson, Hilee Taylor

DT: Maake Kemoeatu, Dewayne Robertson, Damione Lewis, and Nick Hayden

DE/DT: Tyler Brayton

LB: Thomas Davis, Jon Beason, Nail Diggs, James Anderson, Dan Connor, and Landon Johnson

CB: Chris Gamble, Richard Marshall, Sharrod Martin, CJ Wilson, and Dante Wesley

P: Jason Baker

LS: JJ Jansen

I have Brayton in there as DE/DT giving us a better rotation. I also think Captain and Irvin will be put on practice squad this year, both are very raw. Brinkley has not shot to make the roster now unless we get rid of Peppers which I doubt. Also we may go after another LB because I never remember us going into a season with only 6 linebackers. I can see us bringing in one more for special teams.

Concerning the DT position I am not too worried. Kemo is Kemo and Lewis is a much better player coming in on third and longs. He is most effective as a rotational player on passing situations. Hopefully Robertson can shake off his bust status and live up to some of his potential.

I agree as of now that is what it looks like. I think we need to bring in a DT, LB, and OL possibly even two. Also I am not sure and you may be right, but I do not believe we have Darwin and Gibson.

not loving the look of our secondary...or our WR depth.

Love our O-Line, linebackers, and running backs though

I think our secondary will be pretty set next year if our pass rush improves (specifically from the interior). But I really think our pass rush and defense as a whole will improve under Meeks. The good thing is he's got a lot of young talent to work with.

I think our depth is at wide receiver is as good as can be expected for a team such as ours.

I'm just a bit worried about the defensive tackle position, to be honest.

    • WR: Nico, Woods, Tank (R) TE: Schultz OL: Tunsil/Howard/Deiter/Mason/Fant vs. WR: Chark, Thielen, Mingo (R) TE: Hurst OL: Icky/Zavala (R)/Bozeman/Jensen (R)/Moton   Panthers' had the better OL before losing BC week 1 and AC week 4 which is kind of ironic considering how in the following year DB went down in W1 and Shaq in W4 resulting in the defense going all to Hell. CJ has done amazing in Houston, but he also wasn't asked to carry Zavala, Jensen, Mingo, Hurst, and Chark as a rookie.
    • Past 5 seasons, IMO CJ Stroud and Joe Burrow are the 2 best young QBs that have emerged in the league in that window.  They also didn’t need vets to be their primary pass catchers.  They helped fellow youngsters be great at WR.   almost all the other young QBs have been paired up with vets in their top options….and haven’t been as promising.  so it isn’t Madden.  But the league hasn’t played out as you suggest it does.   Good QBs make others around them better.
    • In 2023 their roster wasn’t stacked. They nailed the poo out of the 2023 draft and since they knew Davis Mills wasn’t the guy, they tanked properly to get pick 2. They also took Cleveland’s ridiculous offer for Watson unlike us with Burns. Houston received enough draft capital to jump up to 3 while picking up the right guys in Anderson and Stroud. The Texans were not stacked or better than us in 2023. They had 11 total wins from 2020 to 2022. They didn’t have a terrible front office so they made sure they got their QB of the future while tanking well and getting more draft picks. They are a textbook study of what we should have done in 2022/2023 offseason even though people in here still think tanking is a bad word and our culture would be bad if we were the Texans. We literally had the chance to be the Texans right now and fuged it up.
