OK, I want to create this as the entrance to my store.

(It will be on the inside, so weather won't be a factor.)

I was thinking of taking baloons, filling them with Crazy Foam, (the foam insulation stuff.) Then coating the outside with Hydrocal (A very hard plaster) to make rocks.

Anyone make props back in high school or college?

Find a bendable but sturdy metal rod, bend into shape of the rock wall. Attach chicken wire & some metal mesh by tie-wire to your structure. Now you can spread concrete over the mesh and form your rocks. Let it stiffen up- a bit then use an old BBQ brush & large knife to smooth & create the cracks & 'seams'. Give it a base coat of the color you want, the water down a few other colors to shade and give it the 'real' look... Thats how they did the VA Zoo a few years back, you just need to do a smaller scale... I was doin the controls out there and hung out with the lead artist quite a bit, all the 'rocks' below were made how I described...

I'd think you'd need something lighter like a fiberglass drape over formed chicken wire...you don't want to make anything really heavy for something like this

Gonna say the same as CWG, styrofoam. Cut, carve, sand and paint. You can get any kind of spray paint imaginable, metal look to stone texture.
