Best thing about scatter guns is all the exotic ammo. Bird bombs, flechettes, buck and ball, turkey thunder, dragons breath, the list goes on. Nothing like firing off a bird bomb at 4 in the morning to fug with your buddies.

Same with the Mossberg.

Safety is almost under your thumb, and release is right behind the trigger.

Nah, your kids will figure it out. Best to teach em now that it's a tool. And just like other tools it's not to be played with. Unload it, break it down, and let them handle it. It will remove the stigma immediately. When mine were coordinated enough they were helping me load mags and clean ak's.

Ive preached this to as many people that would listen to me. You only need to do 3 simple things to survive a home invasion.

1. Secure your perimeter. Lock your doors and windows. Most times the subject will enter through an unlocked access point. Also light your place up like times square. Use a combination of natural and man made barriers. Make it the most unatractive target possible.

2. Get a dog. Personal preference on this one. At the very least if someone does decide to forcibly enter your home you will know. He will also know there's a dog inside. I prefer a dog that backs up his bark. The dog will also buy you valuable time.

3. Get a firearm. Subject broke your perimeter, dog is raising hell and you have your weapon. Subject now has to make a decision. The dog or you. It might only take him 2 seconds to think it out, but in that 2 seconds you can put 5 rounds center mass.

If you utilize these 3 simple things you will survive.

If you can't properly care for a dog, I would recommend a home alarm system. It should discourage all but the most determined home invaders once the alarm is tripped.

They are a lot cheaper than they once were and include interior and exterior video surveillance with DVR capability that can be checked 24/7 from anywhere in the world that has internet access.

fug it didn't read the rest us of the post but needless to say they best is what you feel comfortable with. 16 or 20 gauge will do self defense well specially with buck shot. But seiously get the highest. Bird shot and any intudervwill run after getting hit hit wiith hem.
