Some Don't Want Cam Scoring On The Ground ?

Cunningham played maybe, & I'm being generous, 6 complete seasons for his career. He has a significant injury history. He retired in '95 b/c he was benched for our own former QB Rodney Peete. Came back in '97 to the Vikes where he had 2 good years & was benched again. He was a backup for the Ravens his final year before he permanently retired form football.

You tell me, but that's not what I think Cam's career is going to look like.

3 of his Eagle years they had Jaws starting. Seven seasons of at least starting 12 games (87-90, 92, 94, and 98). He earned All-Pro honors in 1998 by the way. You're not looking at the whole picture. Cam is in a better situation because he came in right away to start and won't go to another team that already has a starter in place. Cunningham was a 4 time All-Pro. Imagine what Cam will do in his better situation.

He did earn all-pro during '98, he had an extraordinary supporting cast (Chris Carter, Moss & Reed). I was at the playoff game he lost to Atlanta, they had a great offensive coordinator (Billick, before he became the HC of Baltimore). How is Cam in a 'better' situation than that? Our WRs, except Smith are not even close to what that team had.

So excuse me if I don't agree with your 'exact' comparison between Cunnigham & Cam...it would be very depressing to think that's how Cam's career ends up. Don't get me wrong either...I loved Cunningham even tho I didn't like the Eagles or Vikes.

I don't mind Cam running on designed plays or scrambles because I know he has the moves to juke defenders and stay injury free.

The jumping over the pile worries me though. On this play, for example I was super worried about his neck when he came down. Cam is tall and can get some major air but, needs to remember that no amount of moves can juke gravity.

Reading comprehension? I said at least 12 games. 1 of those 7 was 12 games starting in 1987. Did you know that was a strike year? So yes that's a full season.

His supporting cast in 98 has nothing to do with making all-pro. To make that you have to be excellent despite who is around the QB.

Cam is in a better situation because he doesn't have another QB taking away 2 whole seasons out of his career. Cam was ready right from the start. And he most likely will not retire and then come back to teams who already have a starter.

Cunningham collectively had a decade worth of greatness. Cam is bigger and therefore more durable. We should at least get 10 years out of him.

Also keep in mind there are other great runners and passers that lasted a long time as well. Warren Moon and Steve McNair. McNair had 6 straight seasons of at least 400 yards rushing and he lasted a long time. Cam's running ability may stay the same for about 5-8 years before he becomes more of a pocket passer like Moon. But Moon still had the threat of taking off when nothing was there, like McNair later in his career.

That's what Cam will become later in his career. A pocket passer that still has the threat of taking off every now and then. We should go ahead and use Cam's ability to run before he can't use it anymore and while he is reaching his peak of becoming a dynamic running and passing QB like Cunningham was.

Just let Cam play football. Peyton missed last season due to injury, Brady about 3 seasons ago missed a whole season due to injury.

Injuries happen and the truth is that they are more likely to happen when your eyes are down field and you are unaware of your surroundings than when your head is on a swivel like it would be when running.

Being in the pocket is actually more dangerous for serious injury than running situations.

He is 260 pounds. He will be fine. Quit being so scared, just let him do what he does best.

No one is scared. And, yes he is a physical freak. But, better long term strategy is to let Tolbert take the hits.

It is NOT smart to have your franchise QB rocked on goal line runs. You are asking for injuries, ans opposing defenders would love to get those shots on him.

If you think it is smart to have your QB take shots like he did when he got helicoptered on those goal line plays, then you are nuts.

Run when the opportunities are there....that is a huge weapon. Let your FB take those poundings.

Only ones that should care are those that have him in their FF leagues.

Lastly, why do you think Vick is working to become more of a pocket passer? It is because the injuries and pounding eventually catch up with you.

I agree with your take on Vick, but I didn't start that discussion...just was lending perspective.

Im quoting this because, not only do you confirm your faulty statistic, but I still cannot believe the idiocy of trying to discredit Young and not want Cam to become like him just because Young was a runner too and didn't start every game of his career.

      I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.

      Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
