John Clayton's Top Ten Breakout Players for 2012 (A Panther makes the list)

Gettis said the plan is wear a brace on his left knee for the entire season. He began straight-line running about two months ago. He started cutting for the first time last week in organized team activities, although trainers have been cautious with him doing too much too soon.

"It's a work in progress," said Gettis, who expects to be 100 percent when training camp begins July 29.

"He's looking real good," Rivera said. "He's getting his speed back and quickness and now it's just a matter of him building up that confidence in the knee. You see the ability because of his speed, quickness and size. He's going to help us."

That list is god awful. It's full of rookies that have already shown superstar potential or players that are obviously trending upward. The only two on the list that should even apply are Olsen and Williams from Ariz. (who I like btw) real ground breaking stuff.

I'm thinkin 4-5 receptions per with a 10.6 avg. So I guess that's about 70 catches for a little over 740 yards? Taking a wild guess at 5 TDs. Is be happy with those stats but with out checking first is have a hard time calling that a break out year. I see us as a team that really spreads the ball around by design.

John Clayton recently compiled a list of the top ten break out players for 2012 and the list includes a former Tar Heel, a wide receiver from a division rival, and one of the Panthers own.

1. Julio Jones, WR, Atlanta Falcons

2. A.J. Green, WR, Cincinnati Bengals

3. Patrick Peterson, CB, Arizona Cardinals

4. Dez Bryant, WR, Dallas Cowboys

5. Ryan Williams, RB, Arizona Cardinals

6. Robert Quinn, DE, St. Louis Rams

7. Greg Olsen, TE, Carolina Panthers

8. Tyron Smith, OT, Dallas Cowboys

9. Connor Barwin, LB, Houston Texans

10 a. Russell Okung, OT, Seattle Seahawks

10 b. Trent Williams, OT, Washington Redskins

John Clayton on Greg Olsen

Note: Both the Cardinals and Cowboys have two players on the list.

So what do you guys think Greg Olsen's stats will be this year?

I certainly hope so. I had some high hopes for him going into last year..

Didnt some of these guys already "breakout" if they are better it is because they are in their second or third years.

Saying a guy goes from minimal contibution to semi-pro bowl stats is a breakout year IMO.

Lafell is a potential Breakout Panther..Olsen too...Hogan, Hardy?

Other guys Id put there are like..Jeremy Maclin, Jacob Tamme, Demaryius Thomas
