Quote on Peppers in PFW

You wouldnt consider a 10 year 80+ million contract "mega"?

thats what he turned down.

You know the funny thing, I dont see the Panthers offering him that type money again.

There is no reason to now that Brown is on the roster plus the progression of Charles Johnson.

The getting paid part is what they'd have issues with.

No question about that at all. They don't pay guys elite money when they are projections, which is exactly what Pep would be at any spot in the 3-4 (my guess is WOLB as the only spot he fits). IMO he can't play 5-tech so it doesn't help them with replacing Seymour if they want to let him expire after this year. They paid AD some healthy dollars as a FA but he was proven at his many positions. They paid Rosey Colvin who was transitioning from 4-3, but he was 3+ years younger than Pep at the time, but that was a FA signing. This would obviously involve some dollars AND draft picks.

i honestly think the Panthers KNOW he will be back, if not I would think they would have Brown on the right side where he played in college?

Am I missing something here?

there are a lot of things being said that make me think the players and coaches are expecting him back and are trying to make things ready for him.

they may know...at least coaches and a few vet players do, anyway.

i'd be fine with it.

interesting theory on brown being on the left predominately, though. that can still be explained several different ways but i do think that the right side is saved for the more polished, solid, and/or established DE. brown is over on the left side for now because he has to work up to the right. it could be that is where they are planning on him playing, though. if peppers is back and brown is starting...pep will be on the right and brown on the left.

Our defense is going to suck without Peppers.

i wouldn't say it is going to suck. baker and meeks are going to be able to do good things with who we have. we don't have horrible players. we are going to have a better coached group of players who will be empowered with more tools going into the season. they are making a more solid core of players.

i would rather peppers be a part of it and going at 90-100% but i don't feel bleak about a DL without him.

    • In all honesty, no one knows if Dan really pushed for Bryce to be drafted. It's not fair to Dan to say that just because he was a part of the Fitterer regime then he was in full support of drafting Bryce. If the HC, Reich at the time really wanted Stroud but got bullied into drafting Bryce then Dan had even less say so in the matter. Dan was also saddled with giving Bryce an opportunity to compete in years 2/3 because of the cost to trade up and get him by ownership.  Outside of managing the QB position, Dan has made good moves and built a decent roster. Solidified the O-line and D-line, drafted contributors, and made good trades (Mike Jackson), and free agent signings (Dowdle). I do believe that this offseason will be really important for Dan and we'll see whose side he is clearly on. Bryce has had plenty of time and opportunity to prove himself and he has failed, if Dan is a Bryce homer he'll give him another year and pick up the 5th year option. If Dan isn't a Bryce homer, he'll move on from Bryce. Either way, we'll find out this offseason.
    • You also have to extend him and probably deal/cut Bryce
    • Jones would be what he is if he was on this team, a fairly middle of the road game manager. Still and upgrade but probably not worth the price the 49ers may want for him. If it's not something stupid in terms of ask and he doesn't want something even more stupid in terms of longish term contract, I am okay with a middling game manager until we can do better through the draft. The one thing that wouldn't be terrible is some stability at QB. That has almost never happened under Tepper.
