ok- this is my only theory on the very ugly thought of hooooov being cut;

#1 we drafted goodson to take goings spot

#2- then we drafted fiammetta; whos spot does he take? we wouldn't waste a pick.

#3- there are 53 spots-

i think we drafted goodson to take birmingham's spot, and fiametta to take goings' spot.

we could do our spin on the 5 receivers set... 5 hb set! williams, stewart, goodson, hoover, fiametta, all at once!

they could set up a wedge!

Hurney if you're reading this i will work for cheaper than Fox.

I could see us going with 2 TE and saying goodbybe to Rosario, he had a couple of good games but he's not Gates, and Goodson could fill his roll.

That was what i was thinking ...We dont run too many 3 te sets sso we cut one of the TE's and have Fiammetta fill in if we do

We could also only have 4 wr's on the roster...dont think they will do that though

I can't see Hoov retiring when we are so close to him getting a ring. Sure, we may fall short, but the widgets are in place for the possibility and I'm sure he knows it...

I also don't see us cutting him, I mean, it's a theme around here how loyal Fox is to his vets, right?

we only keep one fullback? Hoover's contract went up in the last few weeks? Is there something I'm missing here, that would alter reality to the point where we'd cut a ten year veteran (that's been here longer than all but one player continuously, and all but one coach continuously) because of a rookie?

Hangman

Bridges

Hackett

Goings

Gibson

Lucas

That's 6 roster spots on the 53 man off the top of my head.

That have to be replaced by same player positions I might add...

I still think there is room to keep Hoov and the kid...

Bridges- Could possibly be resigned and I would be happy if we did.

Hackett- Taken care of Smith, Jarrett, Moose, Robinson, Goodson

Goings- Taken care of Williams, Stewart, Goodson

Gibson- Taken care of Irvin, Lewis, Kemo, Hayden

Lucas- Taken care of Martin, Marshall, and Gamble, Wilson

The only backup spot I'm worried about is center.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
