key word "supposedly"... like I mentioned earlier, I believe that's a completely unfounded opinion certain people fabricated..

LaFell, IIRC, was the receiver Rivera wasn't too high on..

It was founded in last years training camp when Gettis and Lafell struggled. Rivera brought in Legadu Nene because he wasn't happy with the three second year guys.

I thought one of the more recent Panthers pressers had Rivera on there saying LaFell had pretty much locked up the 2 and is proving it everyday. I may have heard him wrong, but im pretty sure he's happy with what he has in LaFell right now.

If Im RR Id do the same thing with Gettis just to buy some time to give the other guys reps. I would be conserving Gettis health, making sure he is 100%, and also getting a chance to kick the tires on the other guys. Then when I decide which of those guys can compete for a game day jersey, Id throw Gettis back in there. . . right around time for some pre-season bitch slapping.

Barring a set back I dont think theres anyway Gettis will be sitting by preseason game 1. He's had a year to digest the playbook, study film, work on his hands, and get stronger. There's way too much potential sitting there doing nothing.

He is referring to last year's training camp..

I've never thought much of Gettis. He had an ok season on one of the worst offenses in NFL history. Can he be a factor on a good offense with tons of competition for touches?

Yes, K, he is a vertical threat wihch is ideal for this offense. He's not going to set records in catches by any stretch but he will most definitely take pressure off the run game if he gets going. This offense loves to mix it around and create mismatches.

whos to say what will happen since defense havnt decided to pick their poison on us yet. If they leave Gettis open deep, he has the ability to make them pay. . BIG. . . 6 points big in less than 7 seconds.

being in the coach's doghouse and taking time to learn the offense are completely different... See Goodson and Otah.

Regarding Rivera not being high on Lafell and Gettis that first year, specifically Gettis. This is the quote that everyone refers too, it came exactly four days before Gettis' got hurt so it represents Rivera's last opinion of him before he got hurt.

Coach Ron Rivera on new WR Legedu Naanee: "One of the biggest things is we've had nobody step up other than Steve (Smith). We need to find guys that are going to step up and challenge for the (No. 2 receiver) position. This is a chance to get a guy who knows the system, understands the system and can show the young guys what it takes to be a pro."

I'm sure he knows where he's supposed to line up, his routes, and grasp the verbiage, but I do think chemistry is the primary concern with him missing time. He should build that pretty quick though, I doubt it takes him more than a few games to get up to speed.

Yes he should learn those things rather quickly but as far as taking a few games to get up to game speed, he's going to have to learn that before he can get in the game. In addition, Gettis hasn't played in this system, so he does have to learn it and proves that he knows it before he'll get on the field. Trading for Muphy says something....

Regardless, Chico has a keen judgement of talent and heart of which I trust implicitly. He's fair and realizes we can't have 5, 6 or 7 dudes on a 53 man roster that can't contribute as was the norm in the past...Its deliver in a resonable amount of time or hit they rhooada.... You can bullsht him part of the time and some of the time but not forever...

    • More praise of Renfrow from Tim Weaver (formerly of USA Today's Panthers Wire, now SI.com), and also what I told some of you, my Huddle friends, from the start: keep it all in perspective, and don't conveniently---and perhaps unfairly, discount and label Renfrow as a JAG when it was a very debilitating illness affecting his play.    "It's understandable to be skeptical about Renfrow's abilities at this late point in his career. After all, he missed all of last season due to a bout of ulcerative colitis that also took a serious toll on his production in 2022 and 2023."   When Renfrow is healthy, he's an above average guy. Being 29 may hurt or help his chances depending upon perspective, but 29 for receivers generally means that there's still (sometimes plenty) gas in the tank. Renfrow also obviously has plenty of motivation and has come with his game face.   "Then agan, seeing is believing and by all accounts Renfrow has been very impressive since joining the Panthers a few months ago... Where Renfrow will fit in Carolina's new-look receiver corps remains to be seen, but at this rate it's going to be hard to exclude him from the initial 53-man roster." https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/hunter-renfrow-sick-route-panthers-training-camp Read the room, ladies and gentlemen. And don't get it twisted; Renfrow isn't the most talented receiver on the team, but we have seen his ceiling, when healthy, in a Raiders offense that wasn't necessary replete with talent. Consider what he can do, especially in the slot, in a Panthers offense primed with young talent (no pun intended). From sick to "sick routes," eh.
    • That is literally what I am talking about. Those were 53 man cuts. Not at the beginning of camp.  I would say the odds of Barno being back are extremely thin.
