Some quick notes I made after watching the first half again.

The only defensive stat that matters is points surrendered. So far the first unit has done a good job limited points given up. Yards surrendered isn't that important if the other team is not converting it into points.

That is true but given two of the teams we have played are Miami and the jets the case could be made we are not playing the level of competition we have on our schedule.

The case could be made that we shouldn't be reading too much into anything in the preseason. Plus the level of competition can vary greatly based on a few people getting hurt. For example Philly may have potential with Vick but if he is hurt, they suddenly are not very good offensively. The same could be said about many teams on our schedule including ourselves if Newton goes down. Strength of schedule is notorious for being incorrect from year to year and from preseason to postseason.

something else to keep in mind is that we don't play in the afc north. almost every team in our division(tampa excluded) has the ability to score 20 or more per game, so it's really more about coming up with stops & turnovers when we need them most

Nice write-up!

Yeah, I also saw a formation I don't recall us playing before, which was a 2-4-5

I just hate that we've been showing these different looking formations, but we're not blitzing out of them. We need to practice our blitzes if we plan on being any good at it.

the best blitz is a well timed blitz.

The defense is practicing blitzes. I don't care if i see them in preseason.

    • I think you should see the OP for pretty big reasons why that is a completely incorrect take given this is a Dave Canales team.
    • TMac is a good player and would've been the right pick if our QB could throw a ball farther than 40 yards. For this team's current build (run first, game management passing attack) and the fact that our TE's are laughably bad - the five on our roster have combined for less than 600 yards total, with 3 TDs - Warren should've been the pick.
    • If anyone feels like they can't have a conversation about Bryce Young nearly three full seasons into his career maybe assess why and how these conversations end this way instead of looking to shoot the messenger. Why is it okay to label anyone else on the team or coaching staff trash? Folks on the huddle and across the fanbase on social media have fully thrown anyone and everyone including rookie 8th overall pick TMac fully under the bus multiple times this season. But some of you guys apparently expect a pat on the back because Bryce Young successfully evaded a few potential sacks while Tyler Shough got consumed by our pass rush throughout the game and still had a superior performance. The state of this division is hilariously mediocre at best. Bryce Young is the only player on this roster who is allowed to have the lowest bar possible yet we have invested the most resources in him. It's lunacy.
