2nd round safety of the eagles in 11 was cut today.

Any familiar with him johnny rockets maybe that could shed some light on it? From the article he sounds every bit like what godfrey has been for us. (misses a lot of tackles) However with steve wilks being brought in from the chargers do you think we take a chance on him in a back up role and move campbell to the practice squad?

why?

Because we should always be looking to upgrade even in the back up positions. Not to mention the guy has been in a crowded secondary in philly.

He has good size at 6'0 and he seems to be pretty built and every one of our safeties is pretty scrawny by comparison as i mentioned the biggest guy in our secondary from a physical standpoint is Captain and for a safety thats crazy if corners are bigger than you.

And how do you go from being regarded as a great tackler by coaches all over the place to being a horrible tackler all of a sudden? I think it's an interesting look.

Is he a "special teams ace?"

In 11 when they drafted him they were hoping he would fit the mold of Brian Dawkins. And supposedly in college he looked every bit the part. I'm sure you all are aware of the poo machine that has been going on in Philly with their d coach being a former o line coach.

As far as special teams goes i'm as out of the loop as you guys on the subject. All I know is what I remember hearing during draft day in 11 and what I saw from some highlights on that day and from some i've just found. Which is why I asked if anyone knew in my first post.

Isn't wilkes supposed to be really good with the safeties?

    • Does this mean only topics from within the last year or any topics with posts from the last year? i.e. if there are any old threads we feel should be kept around for whatever reasons, would a bump of that thread before the update ensure it's kept around in full or do the posts from more than a year old still disappear?
    • I'm more intrigued at him becoming our future LG. There were some people who thought he was better suited to be a guard in the NFL to begin with.  Then if Freeling ends up being a legit LT, moving Ickey to LG could give us an incredibly strong left side of our OL for years to come. Ickey has only played on the Left side his whole career, both in college and the NFL, so I just wonder if keeping him on the left side, even if shifting inside, would be better than putting him outside on the right side. Just hoping him growing up a Panthers fan will make him want to stay here and move positions than enter FA so he can stay at LT somewhere else, particularly since LT is the big money position on the OL, so he likely can get paid more by someone else to play LT than play LG or RT here for us.
