Why does it matter how big our safeties are? Both were pretty solid tackling against the bucs

It really shouldn't if they tackle correctly to make up for it but if you watched against any power runners our safeties have been getting jacked up in the open field the past few years. Anybody remember peyton hillis plowing through us like a knife through butter. I point to Mike Minter when I think of an NFL safety. Just about every Safety that you hear about that is considered great has a combination of Size , Physical presence , good tackling and the ability to make plays in the secondary.

Our secondary is way worse off at the safety position than the corner position. Otherwise I wouldn't have thought about this guy to begin with. When you see a guy this young being removed from a crowded secondary when you as a team are thin as can be.. you need to at least take a look at it before you throw it out the window.

Guys, guys, Philly has a super crowded backfield so they let this Pro Bowl caliber safety go! But shhhh, don't let anyone know so the FO can be sneaky and scoop him up!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for your amazingly resourceful response as well.. It's nice that we have so many posters that research the situation and respond accordingly cause you know theres no way that any player ever cut has ever done better anywhere else at all? amirite?

Based on what? Godfrey is awful at tackling sometimes as well as martin. This guy was considered an amazing tackler when he came into the league.

What he did in college is irrelevant(generally) if he got cut for "messing up tackles"

You just made my point, Godfrey is a bad tackler, why bring in someone who is also a bad tackler?

Sure they have. But it's rare. Think how many players get cut each season. Now think how many of those guys go on to be stars. Yeah. Would you be excited about any Panthers player we've cut this season if you were on another team and your team signed them? 99.9% of the time, a player gets cut because he just doesn't have what it takes. Jarrett could always be an exception, sure. That can always be argued. This is a debate you can't lose.

Because We know that Godfrey is a bad tackler. We have seen him every day at practice and know he has been coached by us this entire time. This guy we know nothing but the reputation from 11 .. till now.. So by that he could actually not be a horrible tackler he could have received sub par coaching. We won't know until we see.
