Should we be using

In a 3-4 there is one Nose Tackle in the center of the D-Line. He is bookended by two Defensive Ends. These three make up the D-Line. Outside of the D-Line, to either side is an Outside Linebacker. They both are lined up close to the LOS like the D-Line, but further out so they can gain speed and momentum before reaching the opposing O-Line. Behind the front five are the two Inside Linebackers. They play a lot like Inside Linebackers from a 4-3 but, again, these two base defenses are totally different. Kuech and Beast could handle these spots with a little practice. Beside and behind the ILB's is the Secondary, The Cornerbacks to either side and the Strong and Free Safeties to the rear. They play a lot like the same positions in the 4-3.

NT - The biggest fatass you can find to take up a double team. Think that big fuger from NE.

DE - Nothing like a 4-3 DE, who are meant to get after the passer on the outside. These guys are meant to take up blocks.

OLB - A big, physical, fast, mean fuger who dreams at night of eating opposing QB's for lunch. He is a pure pass rusher.

ILB - Meant for pass coverage and run support, though they are also asked to help blitz on occasion. A little like a 4-3 LB, but assignments are often a little different.

CB - Similar to 4-3 CB.

SS - Similar to 4-3 SS.

FS - Similar to 4-3 FS.

As you can see, a 3-4 defense is built around the idea of pass defense. Their specialty is rushing the passer. It is a totally different animal than a 4-3, though it has it's own drawbacks just like a 4-3 does. The positions are called the same thing simply for convenience. They are not the same. We don't have the personnel to run a 3-4 and it would take several years to transition. To be honest it would be better to get a headstart in the transition and begin now, because it is inevitable. This is a passing league and we need to keep up or be left in the dust. But that's really up to the coaches and it doesn't seem like they have any real intentions of changing any time soon.

Oh, and for those who don't know: Rushing three is NOT the same as running a true 3-4 set.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I also believe that's where it's going/should be going soon. Asking if we should be using a 3-4 was referring to the transition being started now.

We just don't have the players to play the positions. We would have to grab a lot of new players and let a lot of good players go to make room. It's a huge undertaking but the result would be good if done right. It doesn't really look like the FO is looking to transition right now, they're doing what they've done since the Foxy era: Sit on their hands and do the same thing they've been doing for years, rather than changing and adapting with the times.

I think our LBs are more than good enough to play 3-4. What would be the real problem with throwing our best LBs out there along with our best DEs and our best DT? Our LBs are GREAT.

Anderson and Beason have been picked apart and abused. We all need to come back to earth and realize they aren't who we thought they were

"crown their ass"

We got issues in all 3 phases of the game

    • Everybody made too much of that. The CBA and the 17 game schedule is what kills the cohesion we see in teams across the league in the opening games.  You decide, look at your depth and make informed decisions there or you get a an extra quarter or whatever two quarters with your ones.  Teams that are set don’t have those openings as much down the roster to evaluate but that ain’t everybody. It is a quandary. I think they need that 4th preseason game back. But as I said, I don’t lay that as the excuse for Bryce to come out looking like he does to start seasons. He has an entire camp.
    • Hey I said the 1pm west coast team, I said the up down up down and we were due for the up week.  You can’t know what is going to happen. There was a guy that detailed why the league would engineer a Panthers win to bring LA Rams back to the pack in conference standings.  Who really knows, and how much real belief do you have when citing these things? I generally have as much as my superstition allows. It rarely rises to an emotional experience. Usually it is more analytical. In terms of interest. When crazy poo happens and we win a game like today I for sure enjoy it.  I mean you have to think about it, how many times do you connect 2 4th and short situations for TDs? Who does that? That is like the most embarrassing thing for the Rams’ defense lol. That never happens and should never happen.  Expecting it to happen might not be a good plan. But it was pretty great
