Conte fined for hit on Lafell

I personally think its fugged up to fine someone that much money when they make that little to begin with. He made 5 G's compared to the 26 he should have.

The NFL needs to fix the fines, and help out the players who don't make as much.

To be clear, he should have been fined, but I completely disagree with the amt

Man..I personally believe that ALL sport athletes are overpaid. He should only be making 5k a game to begin with. Doctors and teachers should make more than them in my opinion.

Not the point... It's not fair to fine someone 4/5 of their check (80%)

Say you mess up at work, or miss a deadline... Lets see how'd you feel about it then tough guy

They are fined a comical amount bc they make a comical amount.....

Can't compare it to John Doe working next door.....

NFL players, even bad ones, make so much money only a comical fine has influence.

My dad is an Army vet and worked for 50 years in mills. He makes $24,000 a YEAR on retirement alone, and he never tried to concuss/paralyze anybody in his life.

fug Conte. Serves him right.

First off Thanks to your dad for his service... And I totally understand what you're saying. I'm not an advocate for the rich as I am currently serving in the military. What I'm saying is that the punishment should fit the crime.... Yes, the player knows the rules and broke them. He should be punished, but I think this is a classic case where the NFL is doing more harm than good. I also feel bad for LaFell and our team possibly having to play without him... It's a double edged sword man. I see both sides of it.

Conte's NFL pay this year is 608,400....

Does anyone realize what percentage of his 2012 money he actually lost.....when he used his body as a weapon by NFL rules? Silly to be upset of that...

Problem I have....the guys making big money....that fine is peanuts. That's why I agree it should be a percentage of the game check. Would make the consequences equal for all.....and more meaningful for those with very big paychecks.

I am fine with the percentage system as long as there is a floor for the minimum (meaning that Conte;s fine should not be $500 because he only makes x amount. All cheap shot fines should start out at a minimum amount (for example, one weeks pay for a minimum salary player) and increase incrementally based on compensation. That would make sense. The union would fight that big time. I am not sure if the fine system is based on the CBA anyway. Right now, it seems that lower paid players will get taxed at a higher rate since the current fining system does not consider what the player makes. Maybe, one weeks pay for all players would be the trump card. The problem sometimes is that you see players getting fined for hits that aren't that bad.

I see that point. It should be based on a percentage of a game check. I just wonder how you are supposed to pull up with some of these fines. \

Remember when our safties used to hit people? I do. Minter, Harris....the good old days.

I remember in the 70's when George Atkinson and Jack Tatum would just clothesline a receiver and nearly decapitate them with the ball not even being thrown to the receiver in question.

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
    • They also came out for the encore and the singers were dressed in canes jerseys. Pretty fuging cool.
