Jeff Sagarin's rankings

That's the only one that matters in the past. But when you project future performance these stats are important, and it looks good for the panthers if they can just fix a few things.

Wrong. The best way to project the future is to look at the past, as history repeats itself.

Looking at AND ANALYZING the past.

You can look at the past and see that the summer comes every year, but until you analyze why it happens its always just a guess, and you end up sacrificing virgins to make sure it does.

Analysis of the past season gives a generally positive outlook for the panthers.

All I know is, if the O can catch up to the D, then the future looks bright. Thought it was going to be the other way around.

Even though our O has been shaky at best. It still scares people. Throw in the fact that our D actually does scare people. And that means we are on the verge of being one scary team. Sounds good to me.

I read this and all I could think was "so you're saying if we sacrifice a virgin we can go 10-6?"

Smartassery aside I agree - I actually like rankings that are based on something other than conjecture. I don't know that they're as applicable to the NFL as they are in other arenas because of the constantly changing nature of an NFL team but there's value in it for sure.

    • This is what I mean. I am not some huge BY fan. I honestly don't look at QBs the way a lot of you guys do. Right or wrong, I've always looked at them as just another cog in the machine. Didn't want BY or even a trade up for a QB in 2023. We saw in the Super Bowl how important the rest of the team is on any given Sunday. Now... so PFF, who has no reason to prop up BY, says he's first in 2 stat lines and Panthers "fans" are arguing why it's either wrong or a made up stat just to make BY look good. Even though they have multiple stat lines where he's literally last in. Like 32nd in the NFL. Some he's even lower than 32. Take a step back. Try to objectively self analyze. This is just not sensible.  Same thing I see with other teams' fans and their QBs though. We analyze every single throw on every single play. For every other QB, most here are only using highlights to judge. Makes a difference. We saw Stafford miss throws when they played Carolina - both games. We saw Love throw crap up when they played Carolina. We saw Dak miss throws when they played Carolina - and Pickens was putting on a SHOW. We saw Josh Allen win a game with 163 yards passing against Carolina, but if BY does it he's crap and can't pass for 200 yards. Gents... come on.
    • None of us think we're contenders this season but no reason we're doomed to 5 or 6 wins either. Dan has to have another 2025- like draft class and at least 2 key free agent signings. We're not Seattle but they don't win without 5 starters from their last 2 draft classes and Darnold and Lawrence in free agency.  Alas,  we'll have to wait one more season for a QB upgrade.
    • I've got nothing else to say really than: Ayup. Here we are again. Again.  All we can really hope for is progress. If we improve as much again, it'll be good. If we don't, it'll be foretold.
