Cam Newtons Strengths ?

None. None at all. Try him out at TE.

That's what the OP wants to hear, right?

Id rather hear how our first round pick from 2 years ago has unlimited potential and is slowly but surely mastering the craft of being an elite NFL qb without hearing the usual excuses for his piss poor play.

Cam Newton's greatest strength right now, is his potential. He is a great talent, but he has a lot of work to do before he becomes a top threat at QB. He needs to work on his anticipation and pocket awareness. He needs to work on his pre-snap reads and montioning his guys. He also needs to work on his change of direction. (He's a good straight line runner, but when he changes direction, it's like watching a train trying to stop on a dime. :D )

So his greatest strength is his upside. It's so important we get the right coaching in there, that wants to develop him into a superior passer, and not a one man show like Rivera tried to do.

Excellent post.

People forget that Cam was going to be a bit of a project because if the things he was not asked to do in college. He had great success last season and the bar was quickly raised.

He needs time to develop and a good coaching staff to develop him.

It is ridiculous to move in from him now.

This season is making that a bigger challenge though.

It's taking away a lot of what he had learned to this point and reinforcing bad habits (basically the David Carr effect).

If they want to save him for future seasons, the best thing the staff could do might just be to shut him down. But they won't, because they need wins to save their collective asses and Newton is their best shot at that.

I'm starting to have a real concern that this staff will ruin Newton like the Texans staff ruined Carr.

I agree with you that I also think the majority of this year's issues with Cam is due to coaching and scheme.

That is why I fully agree with sending RR and crew packing.....and giving Cam a chance under a different staff.

Without going do, we are not giving the young man a real opportunity to succeed.

Oh my god, here comes the David Carr references. Let's settle down here. You guys are acting like he didn't play well this past Sunday. You don't bench him because his coaches are incompetent. Great plan.

You're not getting the reference.

You don't bench him to punish him.

You bench him to protect him.

Carr was a kid with loads of potential who was pretty well ruined by the way his coaches handled him. If you think that can't happen to Newton, think again. He's already resurrected some bad habits that looked to have been gone. Playing behind an awful line in a poor scheme will do that to a young quarterback.

I don't want to see him ruined, but the chances of this staff taking steps to protect him while their jobs are on the line is pretty much zero.

Youre better off not paying attention to what that guy writes Mr Scott. Most of us knew exactly what you meant and I agree. - the game where Newton got sacked 7 times I wanted him on the bench for just that reason.

Agreed, but his remaining in there now is making the job of rebuilding him that much tougher for whomever coaches him next.

There's pretty much zero shot of him sitting, but at this point I think it'd be the best thing for his future.

No, I absolutely get the reference. I disagree with it completely. Any comparing of him to our quarterback is really grasping at straws. Carr was just hot garbage and a complete mess mentally. Cam has struggled, but it's way too early for this comparison. Benching Cam now does nothing for him but say we don't have confidence in him.

Besides, Derek Anderson will likely get killed back there. He isn't very good anyway, just the honest truth.

Carr had plenty of potential and could have been a starter in this league (he's still a backup) but he was horribly mishandled.

If Cam's ego can't handle sitting in a wasted season, then he hasn't got what it takes to lead. Leaders have to be able to handle adversity.

I see zero benefit in continuing to send Newton out there like a lamb to the slaughter.

I also see zero chance that anything other than that is what will happen.
