Rivera should stay if we go 7-9 or 8-8

What I am looking for is improvement in Rivera's decision making and the ability for he and Chud to be aggressive and run a pro offense for the rest of the year. If he stays as coach next year the issue is what kind of coach he will be next year not what mistakes he made last year or even up to now. If he figures out that we need to run a more traditional defense and we need to be aggressive in order to close games out then the majority of the reasons we lost so many close games may be addressed. After all we are 5 or 6 plays away from being 8-3 instead of 3-8. Sure we have a crappy record but we are not Philly bad. Lets see what happens Sunday, if we beat KC and turn things around the rest of the way, getting rid of the staff isn't a slam dunk.

Rivera sucks and has been done...this is a move to save a chance at making sure the face of our franchise is here to stay for the rest of his career. If you want Cam to be a Cowboy then Rivera can stay. If not then JR better make a big splash hire.

Not a worry. Newton will be here for 3 years at a minimum before we would even have to franchise tag him. By then Rivera would be either winning or long gone. Either way, how many times has a franchise quarterback ever gone the route of free agency and left a team that wanted to keep him. I can't think of any. After all remember that if we go on a steady losing streak, Newton will be a big reason for it. In our wins this year his rating has been around 110 and he has made no turnovers, and in our losses it has been a 73 and he has made 15 turnovers.

That is hardly a reason for him to leave as if he isn't part of the problem.

Guest Hornets 2.0

you mean he might have 1 more win than Cam did in his rookie season and with less talent around him to help him get there?

Redskins won 5 or 6 games last year. They were no where near the worst team when they added RG3. Cam was thrown to a 2-14 team with a gutted roster & the worst offense in the NFL. Plus he had no offseason.

Nice try, though.

It really sucks because Ron isn't a guy who's getting outclassed by other coaches very frequently. He's just awful at calling the last five minutes of a game. And that may be something he'll never overcome.

In critical situations, Ron invariably tries to protect players from themselves, rather than leaving them exposed to either make a play or fug up. Except Cam, of course. He has no problem putting the game on his shoulders.

At some point he has to trust his guys to make the play. Whether it is leaving a CB in man or calling a blitz, it is his timidity in those situations that have repeatedly cost us.

But think about it. Woth openings on Dallas, Philly, NY and San Diego why would a good prospect choose Carolina over any of those teams? In 2013 you wont have as many coach firings and it will be easier to get a good candidate. Why on earth would a Gruden or Cowher come to Carolina when they can have any of those big market teams?

I thought of this

I think the problem is that he doesn't trust guys to make plays at the end of the game so he always tries to play it safe instead of doing what got them there to begin with. He changes his philosophy at the end and pays the price when the offense can't close and the defense can't hold. Instead of staying aggressive we play not to lose which ensures we do.
