Ron Rivera Should be Given a 3rd Year

I know a lot of you like to do the popular thing and hop on the "fire Rivera" bandwagon but I have never heard of a coach being fired after just two seasons. To me, that is crazy. Every coach deserves at least three seasons in my opinion. We started out slow this season. I think that had more to do with assistant coaches trying to think to much and asking players to do things that are way too complicated or they were too obvious for opposing teams. We are finally clicking on offense now that the coaches figured out how to get the most out of our players. Our defense was pretty bad until Rivera took over primary control over it and put players like Hardy's butts on the line if they didn't step up their play. They clearly have responded. We have third stringers that are prepared and ready to be thrown into action at any given time and that says a lot about the coaching. We have to remember this is Rivera's first HC gig and it has taken him a while to figure that out. I think we coaches have finally figured out how to get the best of of this team and I would love to see that roll over into next season. We are right on the cusp of being a great team and hiring a new staff now could just set us back again. They will get rid of players and bring in new players. Also try to install a whole new system. Everyone is just getting comfortable with the system we got and it is really looking good on the field. It would be ridiculous.

Im suprised how so many of you are set in stone about Rivera not returning. Lets look at the facts. If we win out A. Its a one game improvement from last year. Just think. 2010; 2-14, 2011; 6-10 and 2012; 7-9. Why on earth would you chance screwing that up?

B.if we win out that means we would be 3-3 in our division versus 2-4 last season. Thats also a huge improvement. Fans on here act as though we are a playoff contender every year and Rivera has been with us for 10-15 years and hasnt won a SB yet. The fact is he has been here 2 years, his first year was a lockout year with a rookie QB. Also note that Rivera had a big role in drafting 2 home run players in Cam and Luke Kuechly. He is 2/2 in drafting first round studs.

C. The players are clearly playing hard for him and want him to stay and D. Cam is playing some of the best football of his young career, do you really want to risk disrupting that now? I have a strong feeling if we fire Rivera, come mid season we will all be saying how stupid we feel about letting him go.

    • I'm not a huge fan of BY, but he does have some clutchness developing
    • While you're correct, people are just sick of being told, "you don't understand this, you're dumb" despite what their eyes say. This applies to the Panthers and anything else in life. This board can be a miserable place, but this isn't the old days anymore because Social Media & Reddit have hijacked old-school forum users.  I have in the last year or so taken a massive step back from Social Media & Reddit. Deleted accounts on both, I only have X/Twitter now. But I was looking for an outlet for Panthers talk and I did not want to do that on X much at all. There are only two legitimate outlets for that I've found, here and SB Nation. SB Nation I used to partake in, but they absolutely bumble-f*cked the comments section, and I like the setup of the posts + comments, as opposed to article + comments. Also, as others have pointed out, being a Panthers fan has been a horrendous existence since Cam left. Just an awful crew of coaches, draft picks, trading away great players, etc. It's been miserable.  Ever since Tepper bought the team, I hoped that he commit to a full rebuild. He never did, he thought there were shortcuts and so did Rhule. This hamstrung us for years, and then he massively overstepped with the BY trade.  This ruined the team building, because there was no depth, and then it ruined nuanced BY discussions because of the insane haul we gave up. He will never live up to that, I think many people are finally wrapping their heads around that now which is good. The best thing for this board to get better is for the Panthers to win more, draft well, and to stay committed to crawling through this Andy Dufrense poop-pipe to escape the depths of NFL hell. It will be ugly and stink along the way, but you can see already this year if we commit to drafting then the team and the vibes can turn around quicker than you think.  I am extremely optimistic about the draft class this season, it's something to watch, talk about, and celebrate. It also gives Dan and I think by extension Dave Canales more of a leash, which I think we need to give them and grant them the time to turn this boat around.
