An indicator that Rivera might be safe

C'mon man, that is a huge stretch. Many coaches have come straight out after losses and taken blame for their failings. We sat there and watched those ridiculous game plans for the first 6 to 8 weeks of the year, and all I heard was "we didn't make plays when we had opportunities" or "we didn't execute". Well guess what, you have to put players in positions to make plays and execute.

I don't care if you want Ron to stay or go, but don't act like he has manned up in public to any extent for the team's failings this year. He may have done it with the team behind closed doors, but in public, it's been all on the players.

He has always taken the blame. There are times when has even come out and said that it was his fault (i.e. the field goal timeout).

Ron is a class act, that's why the players love playing for him. If Ron kept blaming losses on the players then why do they love playing for him so much.

"We" implies me. By the way, Rivera has said before we have to put player in positions to execute better.

Go watch the press conference today, he gives all the credit to the players and doesn't once mention himself.

"If you attack me personally I will make you look like a moron being that I have learned more about the game of football and the aspect of coaching than I ever imagined I would."

You make a statement like this and start name dropping... sorry, the BS meter is pegged and you have zero credibility in my world.

Cool... if I relied on others opinions of myself, I wouldn't be in the position that I am today.

Still not good in relation to this team....6th round rookie playing better than all of our billion dollar back field combined.

Shitty drafting by a shitty GM led by yes man lover JR...plus contracts that would make MLB go wuhhh?

Lol very true, Morris is a stud.

However, D-Will did show he still has something in the gas tank.

"I'm guessing the company you work for didn't immediately experience success. People forget coaching is a job just like yours."

In case you hadn't noticed, I'm retired military. And yes, we did experience immediate success. Remember the American Revolution? That's where we got our start.

And no, coaching is not a job "just like mine."

Please stop using the "I'm guessing..." phrase. You're just not very good at guessing.

If it was an immediate success then why did it take 8 years to win the war?

Things take time to develop. We aren't going to win the Super Bowl overnight, why it's so hard to understand; I don't know.

Recruiters are also coaches at the college level (each positional coach is responsible for coaching), Carl Torbush was Mack Brown's DC/LB at UNC. I learn things from superior coaches just like you learn things from your boss. It's a simple concept.

No poo

you've still got a poo ton to learn though. if you think getting informational treats from these guys automatically makes you think you know whether or not Ron is a good coach you're getting a little ahead of yourself, and by a little, i mean imagine someone leaping from greenland to south africa

I understand what your point is, however like I said before I learn new things everyday. And I have repeatedly said why I think Rivera should return without and am still without a great rebuttal.

Okay, so because you're a QC assistant for a college program, that makes your judgement better than everyone else's on here?

Guess what, there are plenty of people who have worked and are still working at the NFL level (not college) that are bad at their jobs and have poor judgement. But because you work at a college program, that is supposed to mean your opinion has more validity?

Give me a fuggin break.

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
