Will Chud let Cam play QB next season?

Next season is the season Chud needs to let Cam play QB and let him learn how to adjust the line calls and plays. Cam is more of capable of doing that, and he'll work very hard to work at it IF Chud gives him the opportunity. This will allow Cam to be a full fledged elite QB.

Really wish we'd get rid of Chud. He really held us back. I have no doubt that he has great plays up his sleeves but he seems to have no idea when the right to is to call certain plays. It's like before each play he just draws a play out of a hat and that is what he goes with. I think we could do better

If Rivera likes being a HC in this league, he needs to walk around training camp with a 2"X4" for smacking Chud in the head everytime he gets that introspective, deep-thinking, look on his face.

We need to develop our run game in camp. Not week 10 of the regular season. And let Cam play his part while not being the end all and be all of our offense.

Could somebody explain to me what changed at around week 10 to make us a better attacking team? I've read it was to do with dropping the read option as often but what does read option mean exactly? Is it basically handing over the responibility to the QB to decide what the best play is based on how the defence is lined?

If so how come this failed?

Before last season I was under the impression that Chud was a vital cog in the machine and when he was being interviewed for HC roles I worried for what it might do to Cam Newton. But the reality once the season started seemed completely different.

Chud tried to stay ahead of defenses and in doing so got too cute. I really think he over thought a lot of thinks and tried to fix something that wasn't broken. Last year the read option caught guys off guard, so he implemented more of it. The problem with that is that not only did you give defenses and entire offseason to prepare, but it puts a ton of additional strain on the OL by making them hold blocks longer so Cam can make the decision about what to do with the ball.

I assume he thought, initially, that more reps would iron out the problems but with a rookie LG, IR'ed C and back up RG's it only exacerbated the problems. Cam was taking a lot of hits and was essentially the entire offense.

As the season went on he FINALLY saw that it wasn't working and went back to a more traditional, pro style offense with the read option sprinkled in and the results were a lot like what we saw last season.

I don't have a problem with the read option used now and then to keep defenses guessing and such, but it shouldn't be the basis of your whole offensive game plan.

I blame almost all our offensive problems on Chud.

So then read option is simply asking the QB to do more, make the call whereas a standard 'pro style' offense involves the OC calling the play and the QB sticking by that?

That's how I understood it - but does read option also involve the QB rushing more often? Presumably if they're unable to pick the play they're left with little option but to rush or be sacked or throw a silly int? I can't recall the game but I recall Cam throwing a rushed pass earlier in teh season that was easily picked and returned for a TD - a sign of poor utilisation of Read Option?

Was the Broncos fixture one of the games where we adopted the heavily read option style? I'm sure it was around week 9/10 and Cam got nailed by the Broncos pass rushers - that wasn't nice to watch!
