Jeremy "Meth-head" Mayfield

Way to go, Jeremy. I hope you never drive a race car again.

Idiot.

Dont take this personally Dimbee, but do some research.

http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/amphetamines/amphetamines.shtml This is the link that gives basic info about Adderall.

http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/amphetamines/amphetamines_testing.shtml Scroll down on this one and you will see a list of medications (prescribed and over the counter) that will set off a false positive for amphetamines in a drug test. Basically, if you've had an allergy issue, or sinus infection and you were taking Sudafed for it, then theres a safe bet you'd turn up positive for methamphetamine in a drug test.

It was said a couple weeks ago when all this broke that he was on a prescription for ADHD. I can only assume he was taking Adderall, which is one of the most common medications given for ADHD. Adderall is an amphetamine and will turn up as methamphetamine in most drug tests.

Until its proven what exactly he took, then I'm with cptx in sayin get off the horse.......for the time being. If it is proven that he was taking crystal meth then I can safely say I will be behind you 110% in that he shouldn't be allowed to drive a race car again. Until then, remember: Don't believe everything you read in a newspaper or see on TV, journalists are all too quick to jump the gun. Innocent until proven guilty.

Amphetamines = Methamphetamines?

http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/nascar/cup/news/story?id=4245969

NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield tested positive for methamphetamine during a random drug screening May 1 at Richmond International Raceway, ESPN The Magazine has learned from two independent sources.

"Two independent sources"

I don't pretend to know everything that happened and, hey, if it turns out that it was a false positive due to meds for ADHD (in a 40 year old man) and a double dose of Claritin, then I'll apologize for my believing what I read.

If it turns out correct, I hope he never drives in NASCAR again, because that is completely irresponsible (to his own safety and the other 40 or so drivers on the tracks safety) to be driving while high on Meth. That poo is evil incarnate

Yes, you can test positive for meth because of Adderall. I have had it happen to me before. And there is a form of adult ADHD. It isn't just a disease for kids. I work with a guy who has the attention span of a gerbil unless he takes his adderall and he is well into his 40's, now as to why Mayfield has never tested positive for this before if he has indeed been taking the stuff for awhile is a mystery to me. I'm sure this isn't the first time he has been tested.

REGARDLESS of any of this he-said, she-said poo poo, I highly doubt it is a good idea in any stretch of the imagination to drive a car at 200mph while doped up on a double dose of Claritin and ADHD meds. That guy had to have been looped out of his mind after taking that combination, like I said I have been on Adderall before and it makes you spaced out enough, I couldnt comprehend putting allergy meds on top of that.

As I said before, I agree with you 100%. Meth is garbage and nothing good ever comes out of its use. Whether it be on a race track, or on the streets. It's a nasty, nasty drug and if he did drive while on that $hit then not only should he be suspended for life from NASCAR, but he should also face criminal charges for wreckless endangerment, among other things.

I tend to wait until are the facts are known, but so far as I can tell.....things dont look too good for Mr. Mayfield.

Just saw the story on espn. Sure does sound fishy. Unless his stepmom has some type of axe to grind. It's always sad when althletes/drivers throw away everything for drugs or alcohol or gambling etc.

Call me crazy, but I believe Jeremy on this. I just don't think he could be so stupid to use meth after the first "positive test" and fighting so hard to disprove it and get back to the track. Something just seems fishy about this whole situation. I think NASCAR is for some reason or another, trying to get Mayfield out of the sport. Maybe it's because he successfully got a suspension lifted, or maybe for some other reason, but this whole situation seems too fishly for me.

Plus the article said that since the first positive test that Mayfield has had himself privately tested 6 time, and all have been negative. I find it way too fishy that the lab NASCAR is using has found Mayfield positive twice, but the lab Mayfield has been using has found him negative 6 times.

^^bottom fourth of the page is where it says that he's been tested 6 times
