Beason a June 1st cut?

CRA

Recommended Posts

Q: Does the June 1 rule still exist?

A: If a team cuts a veteran player after June 1, the remaining signing bonus will be spread over two years rather than accelerate into the current year’s cap. For example, John Doe is cut in year 2 of his contract with $2M left on his signing bonus and a base salary of $1M before June 1. His team is hit with dead money ($1M base salary less $2M signing bonus equals $1M in dead cap space).

If John is cut AFTER June 1, only $1M of his remaining $2M signing bonus hits the current cap year with the remaining million being dumped into the next year’s cap. Thus, if you subtract the $1M signing bonus from the $1M scheduled base, John Doe ends up costing his team ZERO against the current year’s cap; however, in the next year’s cap, he’ll end up costing his team $1M against the cap.

he hasn't been a good player on D in yearS.

Doubtful he will be in 2013. Odds against it.

His job is also gone, making him more of a situational LB

The odds was against Davis

I woulda thought after Davis, that would make anybody be quiet when talking about comebacks. Guess not

The fact he was a great player, leader, and rep of our franchise does get thrown out the window to a degree when looking forward. Sucks he got hurt. We can't afford to hold out hope like we did with Davis for multiple guys.

Look at TD.

And we spent years waiting on the 2012 season for Davis...

Can Beason comeback? Sure. Hope he does. Question is, is it smart for Carolina to wait around for it when his job no longer exists?

Like I've said, he's better than James Anderson at OLB.

If beason were cut june 1, his cap hit would be 4 million this year and 8 million next year from what I can tell. It would save us some money both years from his salary cap hits although there is 12 million in dead cap space.

Thanks. That is what I was wanting verification on.

OK look at Dan Morgan.

Plus we cant afford to pay Beason to see if he ever comes back full strength.

Hurney sealed his fate.

I have a hunch he will be an impact player again, even at OLB. If we do cut him another team, prob a good one, will get a hell of a deal in my opinion.

Vilma going from the Jets to New Orleans is the worst case scenarion in Beason's case.

A healthy old version of Beason is...

He isn't better if not on the field. He isn't better at 80% than a 100% Anderson. Not with Luke calling the D IMO.
