Top 99 players for '09

Lots of love for Carolina. 5 guys in the top 36 overall, 4 in the top 25. But this is a little interesting.

9. Julius Peppers, DE, Carolina Panthers: The best defensive end in the game, Peppers was the force behind the Panthers' magical '08 season. Still playing his very best, he's one of the rare defensive players that can singlehandedly will a team to victory. With a new defensive coordinator, Carolina needs him in camp sooner rather than later. That deal needs to get done.

Also- Beason the #1 LB(20th overall)

Gross #1 OL

D will #3 RB

Smitty #3 WR

Pep #2 4-3DE

Jake did not make the top 100.

The only thing I didn't like is TD not being up there with some of the LBs I saw on the list, but that's about the only gripe. I feel the rest are very well palced an I do appreciate that he put Beason at the top of the LBs (one spot above Willis).

Apples vs Oranges. Clady is best young Pass Blocking LT and Otah is best young Run Blocking LT. And Clady really has not had much of a chance to show off his run blocking ability. We will see what he has this year as DEN goes to a more run oriented offense. DEN secretly had the best O Line (statistically anyways) in football last year.

I don't remember but I think the Cats did get to Cutler a couple of times in that game which was a rarity for that OL to allow. Either way, I wouldn't knock Pep too much if he didn't do much in that game because that OL was amazing.

I don't think Pep was THE force behind the 2008 season though.

every year I love watching the 'battle' between Beason and Willis.

When Willis got drafted I was like "damn it!!" but then was reading about Beason and I now obviously think he is just as good. I say that meaning that these are the now future HOFers in the NFL both are amazing, it is hard to say that 1 is better then the other.

Davis, Johnson, and Bryton all got sacks. I dont think they was given up by clady though. Im pretty sure Clady only gave up 1/2 sack all year.

    • I think we pick it up and then someone else ends up emerging as the QB next year and we end up cutting him in year 5 and eating it.  That would be the most on brand thing to happen.
    • Evero has his faults, but even in that loss, the team only gave up 20 points. Your post gets to the heart of the matter. We are not a talented team on defense at this time. Some of our younger guys may develop w/more playing time, but for now we have no impact players at LB or EDGE. We could really use a ball-hawking S on the back end as well. We have exactly two players that have to be accounted for on every play, D. Brown, and J.Horn. Mike Jackson has been solid. The other starters would probably be backups on most the upper echelon NFL teams. We really can't expect this team to a Top 10 defense with such a lack of talent. All things considered I've been somewhat impressed with how much better they have played this year.   https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-points-per-game   https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-average-team-passer-rating We are in the top 15 in terms of points allowed per game (22.6) and top 12 in defensive passer rating (88.9). And, we are doing this without a formidable PASS RUSH. Even our rushing defense has improved. We are #16 in rushing yards allowed per game (116) compared to 179 per game last season. https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-rushing-yards-per-game I wouldn't cry if Evero moved on after the season, but his defense isn't the biggest worry for our team.
    • The funny part is she looks older and not in a good way...
