Justin Hunter

Allen and Patterson have been all the rage at WR lately, and are quite possibly the only two WRs that will go in the 1st this year but I wanted to put up some videos on Hunter because he's being largely forgotten.

Yea, he was recovering from that injury this year and his top end speed definitely suffered but from everything I've heard he made more improvement in that area as the year went and was at least close to 100% by the end of the year. If the medical issues check out at the combine and there aren't any large concerns about that injury for the long term I would LOVE it if we could snag him with our 2nd pick. Or even trade up if we have to (no giving away next year's 1st though).

I've watched just about every video available on the projected 1st and 2nd round WRs and some of the other guys like Patterson and Austin and maybe Allen might be more explosive and flashy running with the ball (more so than Hunter at <100% anyway) but no receiver in this draft high points and hand catches the football better than Hunter. He simply makes tougher catches than the other guys. He runs good routes, had decent moves even when not fully recovered from his injury, and gets good separation.

My only complaint (other than the injury concern) is that he could stand to hit the weight room a little to add some muscle. If the injury checks out and the frame is the only knock on him, that's obviously the easiest thing to fix in the pros.

He's my favorite WR in this draft, but I understand why he'd be the 2nd or 3rd rated WR due to concern about his injury. In terms of skills and measurables he's the surest future #1 receiver in the draft. Of recently drafted guys he reminds me most of Dez Bryant in college. My realistic dream first two picks are Hankins in the 1st and Allen in the 2nd.

i would have no issues with Hunter if he is there in the 2nd.like you said, as the year went on he started to regain confidence in that knee and started to play better. my only knock on him is he can be inconsitent catching the ball at times.i could really see bpa of OL, secondary, DL than picking him up in the 2nd.

I honestly thought Justin Hunter was the next AJ Green. He's amazingly athletic, he just can't catch!

Okay, maybe he can catch, but he sure can't when a defensive back is anywhere near him. I really feel like his draft stock fell like David Amerson's this year.

i watched the vols a lot the past 3 years because of there WRs. who do you think will be the better pro between Hunter, Patterson, and Rogers?

He looks plenty fast on that highlight film. If that's him not at 100% I can't wait to see him at the combine. Hell yeah he's fast enough to get behind the defense and goes up and grabs the ball great. I'm not a college guru like several of yall but from the film I've seen I like him and Nuk as WR's that look like they could come in and play immediately. BPA (preferably oline) at 1 and this guy(or Nuk) in the 2nd and I'm stoked. I wonder if 2nd is too late for him though if he tears up the combine. In that case I'm ok at 14 too chuck

i know he only had one injury but when you get to the nfl with guys who are faster and stronger, most likley the injury will flare up again....just like RG3.

this is mayock's top 5 wr for what it is worth real quick..lol

Mike Mayock's Top 5 WRs: 1.) C. Patterson 2.) K. Allen 3.) T. Williams 4.) T. Austin 5.) Q. Patton

    • Please don't tell me you just averaged the QB ratings of all of Shough's starts to declare his QB rating as better 😂 I hope you don't actually believe that's how it works.  Otherwise please show your math on Shough's QB rating as a starter. Thanks for including Shough's 2.6 more Rushing YPG in this comparison, really doesn't feel at all like you're desperately grasping for as many straws as you can here. The truth is, it takes a statistical bottom-tier starting QB like Bryce Young to make Shough look simply OK by comparison.  And that bottom-tier starting QB still, by your own admission, puts up more points for his offense than Shough.  You're framing this as damning for Bryce, but in reality the fact that him and Bryce are so neck-and-neck is shining Shough in a very poor light. Yes Shough is a rookie and Young is a 3rd year starter, which is why I circle back to my position of Shough having a "pretty solid, encouraging rookie season" whereas you're fanboying over him.  Never mind that Shough is 2 years older than Bryce though.  Normally yes a QB's experience in the league is invaluable...but Bryce is kind of a unique situation considering the biggest complaint with him is he is too physically limited to succeed in the league.  Do we think a QB can overcome severe physical limitations simply with experience?  Also I remember wayyyy back (/s) when we cared so much about DJ Johnson being an older rookie and our standard for them being that they're more NFL-ready and able to contribute sooner rather than later.  But now all of a sudden Shough is just a poor little 26-year-old rookie on an awful team.  Seriously...the way you frame everything around Shough is straight out of a fanfic.  Constantly referencing with tears in your eyes how he's succeeding against all odds on such an awful team.  Meanwhile the Saints' D is 14th in PPG and their offense (led by Shough) is 29th in PPG.  Telling me how the Saints managed a win on Shough's shoulders against the Jets last week who put up...*checks notes*...6 points against the Saints' D.  Yes god bless the savior Shough who willed his team to victory against those juggernauts led by Brady Cook.  Never mind how Taysom Hill threw as many touchdowns in 1 passing attempt as Shough did in 49 passing attempts.  Yikes.
    • Who's gonna drop the gloves? I can't think of a single player on this team that can fight. Period. Much less get the best of an opposing player. Please.
    • as a starter, Shough is better this year in all the aspects I shared with you.  Facts. You disputed nothing I said because I’m talking starts and my numbers are right
