Goldson to Bucs

Really? Already forgot your page one whimper?

I was referring to the original quote you used of mine. I didn't refer to Hurney in that one.

As for Hurney, he absolutely has something to do with who the Bucs sign. You don't think Goldson would add a much needed toughness in our secondary and step in immediately and be the best safety of that style that we've had since Minter? Godfrey has improved, but IMO, his job shouldn't be guaranteed because he hasn't proven enough to this point over the life of his career. I was proud of what he did last year, but safety has been the worst position on our defense for years now and it's been ignored. That was Hurney. Put Godfrey with Goldson and that's a much different defense than Godfrey and whatever scrub we have available week-to-week.

Now, we're strapped for cash and get to watch the Bucs add guys that we have an absolute immediate need for and we're supposed to be cool with that because we re-sign glue guys like Hartsock and Florence? That's why Hurney has something to do with who our division rivals sign and who we do and don't.

And people can keep railing about how "they still finished last in the division," well, guess how many times we beat them last year? Exactly. They might've finished last in the division, but they also had more meaningful wins than we did and won early. All they're doing is improving, meanwhile, we've released tenured and successful starters and key role players and have not replaced them. But, we're going to be better as-is?

I know FA isn't over, but I'm just saying, they are progressing and as of now, we're standing pat. All of this is a result of Hurney's flippant attitude with our cap numbers and poor personnel decisions.

No doubt he was overpaid, but we could use a hardnosed safety.

I'm not complaining, just saying we are where we are because of what we did in years prior. We could always bring in a guy like Rhodes or Pollard to fill the same type of role for significantly less money. Did they overpay? Yes. But, we need to match what they and our other rivals do defensively with the same type of smashmouth philosophy IMO, in order to get to the top of our division.

Wow, scary secondary behind a pretty good front 7, Schiano may be on to something in Tampa.

their front 7 is rather shaky, esp. the DL, and their secondary is weak in coverage.

it's a team built to stop the run...not the pass.

he would have been on to something 10 years ago.

Sorry to say, but with our current roster we're not beating the bucs next year. Hopefully we can manhandle the Saints since they're doing nothing either in free agency. For now, I see third place in the division.

    • You joke, but hasn't basically the whole team been in Charlotte this past week together? I'm not one to see the random dumb stuff players put out on social media in the offseason and think it means that's ALL they've been doing and not working on their game.  But it's a little strange that all this is coming out at the same time we're seeing tons of stuff with the team in Charlotte together, even if it's just working out and not even official team OTA's or anything. So he gets a pass from me saying anything now, but if he doesn't show clear improvement this season, it then opens him up to some retroactive criticism for some things.
    • Ha-ha, I bet that went through everyone's mind.  Admittedly I don't read all the comments in a thread before I make a post. Great minds think alike!
    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
