My case to why we should not take an OT at 14

You have to have a defense as close to great as you can, and on offense you have to have playmakers (TD SCORER GUYS). No OL is going to score points for you.

Why did the Ravens win the SB or even get in the SB??? Guys like Flacco, Boldin and Jacoby Jones.

Why did SF end up in the SB?? Kaepernick!

B-more had two former 1st rounders at the tackles and a damn good center in Birk and Yanda at RG whom is very good.

The 9ers had Staley, Iupati, and the kid from Rutgers at RT. A VERY good oline.

Yes, but McKinnie was a guy off FA. You don't need to draft one high when you can grab guys like McKinnie and Birk off FA. I'm not saying they falls off the trees, but if you look at Baltimore they really only spend "1" high pick on Oher.

SF, however has some high rounds guys. But it took then till now of developing and grooming to be where they are. They suffered through all those years bc of no playmakers.

We don't have the money for a McKinney type of player. Hurney's dick is still jammed up our ass. You get a chance to draft a good LT that can play a decade for you, you do it.

Yep, both SB teams had very good OLs. Those two OLs were a big reason why those two teams were in the SB in the first place.

Sure they were. But are you telling me that SF OLINE would've won them into the SB with Alex Smith at QB? No way.

Kaepernick won them all those games. Without Kaep, they would've loss to GB in the Divisional rd.

McKinnie didn't cost Baltimore an arm.

Cleveland took the guy that was (still is) going to play for them a decade long in Joe Thomas. He sure is getting there.

They were a fumbled punt away from a SB with A Smith.

It's probably already been said, but this is a really poor comparison. Not well thought out at all. All the teams that struggled with a first round LT have one thing in common. Shitty, or average QB play. Outside of the Texans (and I would say Schaubb is just above average), every single one of them had questionable Quarterbacks. The difference is we have arguably one of the ten best Quarterbacks in the game. Protecting him with a franchise LT would not only be a very smart investment, it would also lead to better play from Cam and the rest of the offense.....

Stafford, Romo, Cutler, Garrad? Above average.

Most of the teams have something in common also. That is, they lacked playmakers while drafting a franchise OTs. Can't blame some of them bc it was a need. But for us, OT is not in our Top5 needs.

The point is, it doesn't matter how great a franchise LT or OT in general you have. If you don't have people who can score points for you, you're not going to win a lot of games.

Stafford is definitely not above average. Romo and Cutler are debatable with all the gaffs they have. Garrad....meh, he's not a QB that's going to take over games. My point was the teams that had Quarterbacks that can take over games and added a franchise OT, the results speak for themselves. I'm not saying we should absolutely draft an OT with our first pick, because that's just ridiculous. I'm saying I don't understand why some people don't think we need one, or don't think they're that important....
