2013 LA DODGERS Thread

Kershaw is NL player of the week

After pitching 16 scoreless innings and winning two of the Dodgers' first six games, Clayton Kershaw earned National League Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.

Kershaw pitched a shutout versus the San Francisco Giants on Opening Day and sparked the Dodgers' late rally with a home run. It was only the second time a pitcher had thrown a shutout and hit a home run on Opening Day.

He followed that with seven shutout innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates in a 1-0 win Friday night. Dating to the end of last year, Kershaw has not allowed a run in his last 20 innings.

  • 2 weeks later...

Fireworks tonight in San Diego.

Matt Kemp gets a purpose pitch early in the game with an 0-2 count with a pitch over his head. Kemp takes it like a man and gets back in the box.

The Dodgers do not retaliate.

Later in a tough 2-1 game on a 3-2 count Carlos Quentin takes a pitch off his forearm and promptly charges the mound and breaks Zach Grenke's collar bone.

This is the same Quentin who lead the league in getting beaned the last two years.

fuging San Diego, consisting of castoffs and Double A scum and this idiot takes our #2 pitcher out.

These douche bags come to Dodger Stadium Monday Night.

Someone is getting drilled in the ear.

Oh yeah, Dodgers win and now sit at 6-3.

Go Blue!

Yeah Quentin was way out of line. Like you said, he gets beamed all the time, like 16 times last year in 80 games? Why does he act surprised? It would make NO sense for Grenkie to put a runner on base at that time. I'm with the lot that thinks Carlos should be suspended till Grenkie gets back, it only seems fair. I mean, if not, why not just put a scrub out there to take a hit and run to the mound of take out any pitcher?

fuging Mattingly.

Kershaw is in the middle of a tough 1-0 ballgame the Dodgers trail in the 8th.

After dominating and striking out 9 Clayton gets in trouble bases loaded and one out.

What does Don do?

Pulls Clayton and brings in a scrub called up today to replace the injured Greinke.

Promptly two walks are given, score moves form 1-0 to 3-0 DBacks.

Clayton earned one more batter you @hole.

It's been suckin' for sure.

Billingsley is having Tommy John surgery tomorrow. Maybe Ted Lilly can step in and perform.

Hanley Ramirez still out after the injury during the retarded World baseball Classic.

Dodgers showed no sack after the Grienke ordeal. Padres came to town 3 days later and swept the Dodgers and hit another batter. No retaliation from the Dodgers.

Bullshyt, back up your team mates ffs.

They're pounding the Mets tonight but Matt Kemp still hasn't found his stroke, nor has this group of players formed as a team imho.

Kemp has multi hit games in 3 of 4 now, with two 3 hits games. Billingsley in my opinion isnt a huge loss, when have we ever relied on him? He is so inconsistent and health has always been an issue. Trading Harang for nearly nothing really hurts now. Hanley is saying he should be back quite a bit earlier than the original mid May timetable so hopefully he's back in two weeks. Greinke deal was very frustrating, still get mad thinking about it. You are right they really need Lilly to pitch well.

I love that they finally found a leadoff hitter in Crawford. And i think Ryu could have a pretty promising career once he masters his curve ball and gets used to pitching in America.

I'm ready for this guy. I'm convinced he is the answer to our offense.

The spring he had was amazing. I thought if Crawford stumbled we'd see him early but there just isn't a spot for him to start right now.

I say teach him to play 3rd base, his hitting will take care of a few errors he might make.

    • The only WR that makes sense in the first is KC Concepcion. He fills multiple roles in the offense and is a PR specialist.
    • That depends upon what happens with receiver this year and what happens with free agency next year. Hopefully we'll be good by addressing receiver this year (regardless of whether we snag one in the first round or not). If we don't and are unlucky enough for to Coker get hurt (and X solidifies his bust status, and JAGs be JAGing), then we may be fùçked! But I assume that Dan Morgan and company will feel compelled to look for answers in free agency and use that to set up the draft just like this offseason.  Reality is not as simple as we drafted this position X times in a row in the first. If you're suggesting that we could draft a position in the first four times in a row, that's not likely. At some point probability has to be taken into account. I mean, how many years in a row can you be unlucky with one position?  As I've said at times before, you try and plan for the long term personnel-wise and cap-wise of course, but things happen so, in a sense, you still must look at each season--each "team" if you will--unto itself each season. So many things can happen between now and then. A major industry can profoundly impact the bigger picture (like this year), someone could offer you a trade proposal that you can't resist, players might not have progressed to your expectations--you know, things like that. Moreover, you have to be aware of the dynamics of each draft class, including the fact that there could be unexpected draft risers and fallers during the college season. That's a lot. As of today, we expect the 2027 draft to have more exclamations than question marks at OT and the QB class and WR group is expected to be exceptionally strong. We'll have a clearer picture of whatever we'll have to focus on next year at this time.  Lastly, keep in mind that there's always more than one way to get you to where you want to go. The yearly puzzle is not static, it's dynamic and complex.
    • I'm fine with Thieneman or McNeil-Warren.. Rodriguez won't last until 51 so they would have to trade up, he may end up being a late first round selection. Anthony Hill Jr. is more likely to be available. I don't expect defense in the first round now after the murmurings of finding another weapon for Bryce.
