San Francisco 49′Ers Reportedly In Trade Talks With Carolina Panthers

Every single year I've been on this board and every single year I was on the Carolina Growl board before that, there was a group of fans who wanted to trade down because "this draft is really deep" I swear to God, I have heard that every single fuging year.

You should have been hanging out in Philly, San Fransisco and New England where Marty Hurney actually made that happen.

Nothing to report here. I don't see much of a reason for the 49ers to trade up to a mid 1st round pick. Its too early to target a specific player given we are picking at 14. They might be dipping their toes in the water but I dont think there is reason to get excited.

They would trade up bc they don't have room on their roster for all those picks and at 14 they have better selection. We don't know how high they rate Vacarro or Richardson.

I don't see it happening. Gettleman has overtly said he'd rather have a dollar than three dimes. Trading all the way back to 31 for a borderline second round prospect and some more late round picks is loading up on dimes.

How would it be a borderline second round pick at 31? I think you mean borderline first round pick, and it's irrelevant, because the talent discrepancy between 14 and 50 is minimal. This would most certainly be in the best interest of the future of our team....

Borderline 1st round and borderline 2nd round are the same thing. They share a border.

I suppose technically, but the way it's read it sounds like you're saying we will have to settle for a guy who is barely a second round talent at 31. I also could argue that at certain positions the players we could get at 31 are as good, and much better value then the guys at 14.....

Agree with the logic in them trading up but my point is it will not happen until the last minute because the board will/should dictate their move. Trading up now and speculating that a player with a mid range grade will be at 14 seems a bit reckless even with all the draft picks.

Yea, they may negotiate potential compensation now, but until the board falls on Draft night no moves would be made. That way if 14 rolls around and a prospect that Gettleman feels is a "dollar" is on the board they just call the Niners and say no thanks, and if not they call them and say done deal.

In this particular draft, I disagree.

Makin' way too much sense to be posting here.

Value is an empty word. Value on draft day doesn't translate to talent on gameday. I'd rather reach for a star player than use a late pick to get good value with a decent/serviceable player.

You're not getting a star at 14 though so why would you overpay for a good player when you can pay fair value for a good player. Unless we're in the position like SF where we feel like a "Sheldon Richardson" type player gets us over the hump I really don't see the point in overpaying for talent when we have numerous holes....
