Football Gameplan's 2013 NFL Draft Grades - Carolina Panthers

Love the Czar's hustle. I thought he would knock Gettleman and Rivera for the G we picked up from Valdosta St. Everything I've read says it was a huge reach. I'm not that concerned about the WR spot and I still think LaFell is a decent pass catcher. The DBs are a concern but we have a lot of young talent that didn't seem to keep us from winning late last season. With only 5 picks and 2 of them home runs, I'd give us more like a solid B or even a B+ considering we just shored up the DT spot for the next 3 years at minimum.

The LB and RB we got in the late rounds should pay dividends this season on special teams as well.

Not a flashy draft, but an effective one.

Thanks Czar!

good job as usual, but just to echo what others have said, godfrey got the move from SS to FS where he's much better suited.

the need was SS and i think that lester actually might be the guy we needed although mike mitchell that we just picked up in FA a couple weeks ago might be that guy as well.

you are right, tho, that S and WR are areas that needed help. we've gotten some, but i don't think it's enough. i still think the draft was just plain good, tho.

I haven't seen anyone refer to Kugbila as a "huge reach".

The ones saying reach are the same ones that look at NFL.com and see a 52 draft grade. So they base their opinion off of that score.

    • Btw... only Mitch fugging Marner has a better +/- than Key 🔑!!! And, Mitchy needed 5 more games and almost 100 more shifts to get there.
    • I was honestly flabbergasted to see Rod send out Stanky and the boys to to matchup against their top line to start the game. The reason that line has been so effective is because they've been matched mostly against 2nd and 3rd lines all year. You've got last change. Use it to your advantage.
    • Nobody played well on defense last night. But, the vitriol towards Chatfield (and to a lesser extent, K'andre) is bigly misplaced. People (not just you) just refuse to accept how bad Slavin has been this season. And, I get it. Canes fans (and informed analysts) have spent nearly a decade trying to explain to casuals just how good Jaccccob is at hockey. 4Nations happened and the hockey watching public started to listen. National media even started floating the idea of creating a new award in his honor. Then this season, he gets hurt. It happens. NBD. But, when he finally came back, it wasn't the same. He'll get back to his old self in no time. Probably just some rust, it'll be fine. Only, it wasnt rust, and he's not fine. He's bad right now. It wasnt just last night. Although, that was absolutely the worst game of his NHL career. Slavin (-4) currently has the 3rd worst +/- of anyone left in the playoffs. We've  been begging the world to recognize Jaccob Slavin's greatness. And, by the time we finally got people to listen, he shits the bed! I blame Kash!
