Best Beach House Vacation: Wrightsville or Outer Banks?

What is there to do in Wrightsville Beach besides the ocean, bars, and restaurants?  We usually pick a different place to go every year, and I have considered wrightsville, but I drove thru it one year and there didn't appear to be much to it. 

 

It being attached to Wilmington is the biggest thing.

 

Tons of history if you are into that, civil war battle grounds, museums, aquariums, tons and tons of great restaurants....etc.

 

Also you can go on charter inshore and offshore fishing, go diving (dive boat runs almost every day), paddle board tours, kayaking tours.

 

And for goodness sakes, lets don't forget the ladies from Wilmington and UNCW.

I was just wondering if there is any place in wrightsville that does live music, shows, plays etc... that I could take kids to? 

 

We have been to the Carolina/Kure Beach area several times, saw Fort Fisher and the aquarium and the USS North Carolina.    Did just about everything I want to do in Wilmington. 

 

I have thought about taking my son on a chartered fishing boat one weekend, but we would go specifically for that not necessarily for the beach.

 

As far as the ladies, well that might interest my son, but not me (just in case the wife is reading this :))

 

In truth, I think the next time I go to a beach in NC, its probably going to be further north on the outer banks, just because its one of the few areas in NC I haven't been to.  I would like to see the Lost Colony play.  But I might check wrightsville out sometime.

I lived or spent 10 years close to the ocean (Hawaii, Virginia Beach, Med), so I lose interest in the beach/ocean pretty quick.  :)

Wrightsville is a little more of a party beach than family vacation beach, but the fishing, diving, golf, and food is some of the best in the state that has a great beach right there beside it.
