Excerpts

A months-long scheduling battle at PNC Arena is coming down to the wire, and leaders at the competing interests of N.C. State University and the Carolina Hurricanes are suggesting not all sides are acting in good faith.

“Because we have been told by the N.C. State athletic department that it will not be as flexible as previous administrations, the number of events will be significantly reduced as more shows will skip PNC Arena due to the lack of available dates,” he wrote in one of many letters sent back and forth between affected parties at PNC Arena.

Rutherford says NCSU is holding 129 out of 214 days, including 26 of 30 days in November, for only 23 football and basketball games. This does not leave enough time for hockey games, let alone other events.

“Again, NC State has offered these concessions, despite its status as a primary and preferred user of PNC Arena, in the spirit of good faith and cooperation,” Chancellor Randy Woodson wrote in one of the letters.

My Take:

1. Everyone (even NCSU fans) know that Debbie Yow is a jackass, so it's not surprising that it's coming down to the wire (the first major deadline is June 1st)

2. Because of Yow's incompetence and willing to share, she has just lost out on a lot of huge events (WWE, Concerts, Circus, Comedy Acts).

3. Why is NCSU holding out 129 days for 23 games? That is just flat out ridiculous.

4. Finally, for being the primary user of PNC Arena, it certainly doesn't show. The Hurricanes use PNC Arena for 41 home games, promotional events (skate with the Canes, casino night, etc), and some practices. On top of that, the Hurricanes averaged 4,000 more attendees per game than a NCSU basketball game did this year...

The Canes went to Raleigh because Greensboro wasn't making money, Charlotte would be a hard market to make money in as well with out a updated and large enough arena.

It's literally Raleigh or nothing right now in NC and the Wolfpack admin's are ruining that.

Wrong.

Canes went to Raleigh because their new arena was completed, they were never intended to stay.  The Greensboro stay was just temporary and because Greensboro had a facility capable of hosting an NHL franchise immediately.

The attendance was horrible because no one here wanted to support a team that was moving anyways.  Up until the Hurricanes came to NC, Greensboro was THE hockey town in the state.

If this crap from NCSU does something to force this team out, then that will be the biggest mistake in this state's athletics history.

NCSU chancellor Randy Woodson was out of town Tuesday and unavailable for comment. University spokesperson Brad Bohlander said the university had released all but four dates through the end of the calendar year.

“We’ve confirmed nine nonconference (basketball) games and have released all but four dates that are needed by the university to complete the nonconference part of the schedule, an exhibition game and winter graduation,” Bohlander said.

“The university remains committed to working out whatever best benefits all parties as quickly as possible. Based on our 13-year experience of going through this process, we believe we can get this done with Gale Force.”

Rutherford said the Hurricanes submitted their dates, as requested by the NHL. He said the league can impose a $100,000 fine for any date change made after June 1.

It is not known if the dates turned into the NHL by the Canes are among the four not released by N.C. State.

Greensboro was never their home, it was a mere rest stop why they finished the Entertainment Center, now known as PNC Arena.

What really needs to happen is they need to get their own arena in downtown Raleigh, PNC Arena is one of the only arena's that I really know of that is placed in the middle of no where.

City of Raleigh would never go that route.  Might as well come back to Greensboro.  Let Raleigh have Debbie Yow and the Wolfsack.

    • USA vs Germany today 3:10pm. Mens schedule:
    • It is like when you go to da buffet at da Golden Corral and dey have all dis food and you get the same thing every time.   There is probably something you would like more, but you go to da same ol racks and get da same ol food every time.  Not sure why I am writing in trailer park dialect, but hey, watcha gonna dooo.
    • If we don't go OT, we will regret it.  What bothers me?  Are we going to get a starting-caliber OT at 19?  I think the draft is solid at OT, and the more I read up and watch video, the more I watch Lomu, the more I want him.   I see Freeling as a RT who needs some work in run blocking (since we need to run first, maybe not a good fit) and I see Proctor ending up as a Guard.  After Lomu (assuming Mouigia and fanu are gone), I think we wait until round 2.  In round 2, there are about 3-4 I like (Zuhn--good pass blocker and VERY underrated right now; Tiernan is a very good pass blocker as is Miller from Clemson, but both are not good in the run game.  Max Ixxxxx from Ariz St is impressive too---technically, there is not a of difference in these second tier guys--good in pass pro, need work in the run game.   If we wait until round 2 for an OT, we probably need to sign Nijman and start him early.   I almost think this is what we should do if Lomu is gone.  There is a big dropoff after him, imo, and I think we'd get better value if a stud ILB or edge is there.  Someone like TJ Parker Clemson makes sense. If Lomu is gone, trading back might be the play.
